Idle Problems on Del Sol D16z6
Im having problems with my idle dropping out too low occasionally. Sometimes it sits at 750-800, pretty normal, and at other times it drops down to 450-500 and stumbles, I thought there was a vaccum problem with the brake booster so I replaced it and its still doing it but not as frequent, everything else checks out, anyone have any ideas to check?

have you adjusted your idle screw? Check your PCV valve lately? How is your coolant level (will effect idle, however, more so in irractic idles)

What should I use to clean it? Also doesnt the IAC have coolant lines running to it? When I take it off do I have to plug off those lines and do I risk getting air into the coolant sysem? My idle is still all sorts of messed up

BTW does anyone have a pic of where the IAC is exactly located on the D16Z6? I want to make sure I pull the right thing lol

it's directly behind the intake manifold. it has a black round cylinder on it. mounted with 2 12mm bolts. cleaning is easy, use a throttle body cleaner and spray on to the screen. it should be clean and free of carbon build up on the screen.

Re: Idle Problems on Del Sol D16z6 (DelSolSi93)
When was the last time you adjusted your valves? I had this same problem on my Y8 where it would idle normally but occassionally at idle the engine would stumble really badly, causing the battery light on the dash to flicker like the engine was going to stall out. I tried EVERYTHING people on H-T suggested but then read in my Helms that incorrect valve lash can **** with the idle. That reminded me that I had adjusted my valves like a week or two prior to this, so I checked the valve lash again, and it was too tight. Put it back to spec and all was well.

My z6 drops down to 600~650 most of the time as well. I've been wondering if that was alright. It idles smoothly, but I wouldn't mind it being a bit higher. Not modified at all. Would the IAC be a possibility in this case?

Re: Idle Problems on Del Sol D16z6 (no_one_)
you need to adjust the timing. my z6 sol did the same thing as soon as i got my exhaust. i was due for a tune up and i went ahead and adjusted the timing. now when the car is warmed up the needle doesnt drop below 700 and there is no shaking whatsoever.

Re: Idle Problems on Del Sol D16z6 (chronodyne28)
everyone seems to be giving good advice, so there isnt much i think i can say. remember that the stock tach is off of the real engine rpms- my z6 tach is off 220 or so on the high side, as i found out at the dyno. so if it reads you are idleing at 600, its probably more like 400, which is like 250-350 rpm lower than it should be for a manual tranny z6. the iac is on the back of the manifold just to the right of the throttle body...i would check the ignition timing first before you changed it. if its off, then set it to 16.5 degrees, which i believe is the stock timing and see how your car idles then. my z6 just started surging between 800-1200 rpm on my stock tach at idle today, so im gonna go try the iac cleaning first cause its got 142,xxx miles on its dirty self, and go from there

if thats true then my car wouldve cut off when it was idling at 200. i dynoed mine too and it didnt show it was off any....
