idle problems after installed stereo system
can anyone give me an answer? i installed my amp wire kit today on my 98 civic hatch and after that each time i step on my brake when im slowing down my car goes really low idle in nuetral and dies all the sudden in the middle of the road and i almost got hit by another car too F*CK!. i ran my power wire through the rubber boot that carries the ecu wires under the dash. maybe thats the problem but i dont see how it can effect my low idle problems.

Sounds to me like your drawing too much power when you step on brakes, and are causing the engine to stall. What gauge power wire? Make sure you have a good ground. If your using a high powered setup, you may consider a 2nd battery.

Re: idle problems after installed stereo system
ok i uninstalled everything but now the engine doesnt kill but goes very low idle each time i step on the clutch to switch gear and also when set in nuetral and if i let the engine sit and very lightly tap the gas it goes low idle and back to normal. sorry i dont have a tach so i cant tell what the rpm is but i can tell it goes very low idle because you can feel it on the steering and when i popped the hood to check the engine shakes pretty bad at low idle. i dont know much about wires so i cant tell what gauge but i bought the amp wire kit off ebay a couple years ago and was previously used in my other cars.

what size amp is the power wire going to? if its an amp higher than 1500 watts rms then you might wanna upgrade your alternator. it could be your alternator giving out.

amp is only 300 watts and its only for a nice easy to listen system so i dont think it should drain as much power. but im going to backtrack everything and see if i made any mistake.

Re: idle problems after installed stereo system
Is the A/C Running at the same time as the Audio System? I am having same problem kinda right now is that if i have my A/C on 2-4 Setting if i let off gas my engine goes so low on rps it shakes really bad and i have no power in second gear. If i turn on the music it gets even worse. Alternator is keeping car at 13.2-14.5 volts. Let me know if you find anything out. I was thinking my A/C belt is too tight?
