Default Idle problem with my D16Y8

Alright, I searched and looked through 5 pages of idle issues that have been posted in the past but none of the symptons are related to my issue. I have a 99 Civic EX(D16Y8) AUTO and the idle has been weird. I previously had this problem and overlooked it until now. It come and goes and never could pinpoint the error code. Or should I say, no error code ever came up. One day the car runs fine. The next day, I run the car and the idle is off tempo. Then again on a different day, I come to a stop the idle goes down to like **200RPM**range and wants to stall. I basically have to pop it into Nuetral and step on the gas a little to keep the motor running at a signal. Then just out of nowhere, it runs fine. It's obviously not the idle sensor control because I fiddled with it before. What could it be?

No. I thought it wasn't nesesary because I only have about 62k miles on it. Do you think I should do it? If yes, what additive or cleaner works best?

What does the maintenace history look like?

Cap, rotor, plugs, wires
Fuel filter, air filter
Valve adjustment

Give the IACV a cleaning. Get the engine warmed up and remove the intake arm. You'll see a hole in the throttle body that leads to the IACV - spray (in short spurts) some throttle body cleaner into that port, allow the idle to stabilize (may have to help it) and repeat several more times.

If you can find some Sea-Foam, run a bottle of that through your tank. Gumout Regane is some good stuff to.

well even though your car is at 60+k it doesnt mean that the car is still in "great" condition. Also check for vacuum leaks, and maybe it might be your intake manifold gasket. I had that problem, EXCEPT the fact that mine idled at ZERO! serious ZERO it died acouple of times on me, switched it with a hondata gasket, runs perfect! my 2 cents oh yeah by the way I had a Y8 too but mine was a 98.

yea our y8's seem to do that alot, mine and my brothers, do a tune up, plugs, wires and definitely clean the throttle body, take it off when you do it

This started happening since I installed the AEM Shorty. Do you guys think I should switch back to my stock air box with K&N?

My car was doing the same thing and it turned out to be the IACV. Mine was siezed up and I had to remove it from the Throttlebody and free it up with WD40. Works ok now but occasionally it acts up.

yeah it could be what bolo said and you can try to adjust it. i am not sure what its called but theres alot of threads about this situation. Did you try to change your intake manifold gasket? Try to adjust the Idle valve too that might help, i had to do that PLUS cahnge my gasket. GL..

I got same problem with my car and I got 2000 EX AUTo with 60K too. But mine is running really sluggish sometime at low RPM (under 3000 RPM). It flees like I got no torque or power. It will accelerate slow no mater how much gas I give.

This isn't the only problem though....In the past when I hit 30k miles, my brake pads wore out only on the insides of the front calipers. It did it again right now at 62k miles. I'm wondering if there was a recall on any of these cases? I already ordered replacement rotors, pads, shoes, and drums from Rotora, so i'm kind of set. But I got a feeling it'll do it again at 90k miles or so.

dude, that's a sign of uneven wear...Set yourself up with some new calipers..or bleed your system...

I know it's uneven, and I have already bleeded the lines of air. I basically think I have a seized caliper on my hands.

Also for the update, I removed my AEM SRI and put my OEM box back in. It seems alot more stable idle now. I'm gonna experiment with it because I cleaned the throttle body and it didnt do anything.
