idle adjusts itself, so you should not adjust anything, else you'll just be covering up underlying problems. start with a good tune-up (plugs, wires, dizzy cap and rotor, air filter). 95% of the time, when there is no CEL, this is the problem. You can also check the IACV by Helm's instructions.

Don't go play with your idle... Idle is not something that changes all of a sudden.
If you can't diagnos that symptom on an engine, that indicates that you do not have the knowledge to play with your idle.
Explain your problem a bit better. How did this first start? Did you do any mods to it prior? etc...

but I can use that as a temporal fix right? until I have time to check.

Check all of the basic things on your car. I.E. air filter, pcv valve, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and check your EGR vlave as well.

That happened to my friends 97 civic with a GSR swap, and the shop replaced the idle air control and fixed the problem. Maybe check into it.

IACV is around the back of the intake manifold and throttle body. I believe you would be throwing a code 14 if that was the prob though.
