Default Idle Problem

99 Civic EX, 5spd

i have an idle issue. whenever i drive and come to a stop, disengage the clutch and put it in neutral, the idle rises up then comes back down. ive tried to adjust the idle screw above below the MAP sensor but that still doesnt correct the idle fluctuation. ive looked in my helms manual and it says to disconnect the IACV and take off the cap [according to the diagram; but i dont have one, or cant find it]. any help would be appreciated. thanks

the iacv is behind bolted onto the intake manifold.

you might want to remove your intake arm and clean out the butterfly it might be making your throttle stick, and also check the tension in your throttle cable.

the butterfly is clean and the throttle cable is adjusted. it was pretty loose earlier. it has a little bit of flex so the throttle plate isnt stuck open.

is the butterfly fully closed at idle ?

yeah, its tensioned just right so its not too tight keeping the plate open and not too loose. and the butterfly is open a tad bit cause the cars on. about 670-730 rpms.

the butterfly should be fully closed.

it is that way. sorry if i didnt explain right. when the car starts, its open a bit. but when fully warmed up, its closed til you hit the gas. the voltage is like .45 on the TPS sensor. one question though, when you disconnect the IACV, do the RPMs fluctuate or does nothing at all except throw a CEL?

i was almost about to take off the IACV but then i was like lets try it once more. i disconnected the 2 pin connector [99 y8 ex m/t] idle dropped to like 550-600rpms. it was too high. for the 6th gen m/t y8's, it should be like 450 [+ or - 50]. set that, readjusted the throttle cable, reset the ecu. plugged the IACV connector back in a started it, checked it out, it runs good now, earlier today it threw a code, i think it was p0505. but now, no more issues. only thing now, after you come to a stop, it kinda shakes, not too much. im wondering is there a ELD on the clutch pedal when engaged/disengaged? thanks everyone who helped!!

i think the reason why your idle is shaky at a stop is because you turned down your air idle skrew too much, pull it a few half turns out, its ok if your car idles around 550, your tach may not even be that correct.

1. i set the base idle at 475 [450 in helms manual] and i use a safc as my tach so i think thats pretty accurate
