Default Idle Problem

I have a slight idle problem with my 92Civic Si HB(D16Z6). I have I/E. I watch my A/F Ratio Gauge when it's idleing, it sits in the lean/stoich range and it feels just fine. If the gauge reads into the rich while idleing the car starts to shake pretty god from the motor, and the exhaust sputter a bit. I just want to kno if anybody has any ideas about this problem?

have you messed with the idle screw any? you might need to reset the idle and redo the timing.. its a pretty easy process probably wont take more than 10min

I haven't messed with the idle screw at all. The closest thing that I did to that was tighten up the throttle cable, but the idle stayed the same, it didn't go up at all. As far as the timing goes, I did time it, but can't get it right on to 16 TDC. It's really hard to line up the two spots on the block with the crank mark. I also want to know, which mark is 2deg. advance on the timing? Is it the one right next to the center mark toward the front of the car?(know what I mean?)

not sure on which is the advance mark or not.. i just line up the red mark on the crank pully and then advance/retard with my cam gear.

does it idle any higher than it did before you tighted the throttle cable?

No, I said that is DOES NOT dle higher since I adjusted the throttle cable, it idles at just the same speed as before. I don't have cam gears though. I have the stock cam gear, so I need to know which mark is 2deg. advance. I am assuming that it is the very first mark beside the center. Any idea on the rough idle though. Anything that you can thing of me trying to help eliminate this?

id guess that the mark towards the front is 2deg advance.. but id definately try to verify this first..

according to my haynes manual the possible problems for "engine lopes while idling or idles erradicly" is

1) Vacuum leakage
2) Leaking EGR valve
3) Air Filter Clogged
4) Fuel pump not delivering sufficient fuel to the fuel injector system
5) Leaking head gasket
6) Timing belt and/or pullys worn
7) Camshaft worn

thats the only troubleshoot thing i could find on idle other than missfires while idle..

hope that helps

I know how to reset the ECU. I did reset it whenever I added this mods to the car. I just cant figure out what is the problem. The motor should still have a lot of life left in it. The timing belt and water pump are only 30000 miles old, the head gasket seams to be in good operating condition, no smoke or anything like that. I dont see how the cam could go bad(I'm sure it could though). I wonder if the problem could be caused by the valves being out of adjustment?!?!

For starters- you need to loosen your throttle cable- it should not be tight- if it is tight- the ecu will never see closed throttle and you will NEVER get the idle to work properly. The mark on the right (towards windshield) is advance 2 degrees.

The mark toward the windshield??????? I thought it was the other side of the pulley. If that is the case, then I might have found my problem, I think that I have the timing retarded a hair, that might be why it lags a little on hard acceleration.
