Re: idle jumping??????? (streetaccord)
Your A/C is kicking on and off. It's kinda normal, but you might want to get your refrigerant level checked, because that can sometimes make your compressor kick on and off if the level is too high or too low. Other than that, you're getting into some serious stuff.

It can be:
Vaccum leaks - including torn gaskets, gunked up IACV, lazy FITV, idle air bypass screw or throttle blade stop screw out of spec.
ECT - well, air bubbles in the coolant system, that is.
TPS needs to be .45v.

Do you know a bit how to work on cars? Diagnosing this problem is not easy...
Main causes of your idle jumping are:
1. vacuum leak. whether on the IM or a line, something's leaking
1st start by starting the engine, get under the hood and listen... Sometimes you can hear it hissing. touch and squeeze the hoses to see if you hear something.
then, if your problem was not found, grab yourself a can of wd-40. with the engine idling, spray the individual components and gasket seems. If the idle changes, you have found an intake leak.
2. IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) problem. possibly a bad valve, or a bad double-O ring on it, causing a vacuum leak (happens a lot)
3. O2 sensor problem. do you have any CELs (Check Engine Lights)?
4. TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). Check with a voltmeter from 1-5 volts
5. MAP sensor. probably not the culprit, but it could be going out, or be leaking vacuum at it's base.
6. Air pocket in the cooling system. Not very likely, but has happened before.

Re: (filthy_shovel)
Alright, before we get all serious and everything, go do your usual thing and roll down the window with your a/c on and see if the idle jumping corresponds with the a/c compressor kicking on and off. I finally figured out that my system was overcharged and the excess pressure was causing the compressor to be overworked and turn itself off.

IACV... Check your idle air control valve.. (located behind the intake manifold). I know a couple people that have had the same problem as you are describing. They replaced the unit and everything was all good... I would go buy one from Honda...

Re: (Mistamike17)
mistamike should be slapped, aiight knock off tps sensor and map. They rarely ever go bad, and u'd notice a huge difference in regular driving, not just idle. could be ur IACV, could be a vacuum leak, could be the hidden culprit which plagued me for 8 months. spray some carb cleaner all over ur vacuum lines, like a mist like 2 feet away. (NOT BRAKE CLEAN), hondas are very sensative to vacuum leaks and usually they are small. So the carb cleaner will be sucked in and temporarily plug the gap (trust me it works well). IACV should be right behind ur throttle body, i have a d16z6 and im just referencing from my motor. There are 3 screws on it, take it off, see if the screens are clogged, and if the o-rings are busted, clean it out either way. now the hidden culprit which took me 8 months to find. im not sure what its called, but on the bottom left of your throttle body, there should be something with a couple coolant lines going to it. Inside theres this white plastic screw about an inch thick, the assembly is some sort of thermostat, well anyway this can become unscrewed inside just from normal driving, mine did twice, just screw back it and tighten it down. Poof no more surging.

i had the same problem..
first i replaced the IAC.. still did it..
replaced Coolant temp sensor.. still did it
then i relized there was a bolt missing from the valve cover..this caused air to get in.. replaced it and now its fine.
i bought the car off a kid with many problems such as that...

Re: (jspresso)
Have you added any performance parts lately? Even something to do with your exhaust? You might need to reset your ecu. I would do that before assuming it's other things that are causing problems.

WTF?? It was a valid question. You have no idea what the people on this board know as far as prior experiences. I've answered a couple of people's idle jumping questions with A/C related issues. Chill, man. I was just trying to solve it and be of some help.

Re: idle jumping??????? (streetaccord)
check your vaccuum lines or unplug your IAC sensor and it should stop but u'll have a check engine light. when u start the car in the morning plug it in so it can start up normally if not it'll start weird
