Default Idle is funny and turns off

ok i have a 93 civic HB with a h22 motor swap and just recently my car has been acting kinda wierd. my car idles fine when the clutch pedal is not compressed, but sometimes when i am at a stop or light the idle goes up and down when the clutch peadl is compressed and sometimes the car dies and i have to turn the car back on, it really embarasing because it looks like i stalled. anybody have any good suggestions on what it could be. keep in mind the car only idles funny and dies when the car is warmed up and when i compress the clutch pedal in at a stopped position. when the clutch pedal is not compressed even when the car is warmed up it idles perfectly. i tried cleaning the IACV it was kinda dirty but i dont know what else to look for. please help me out thanks

when i compress the clutch the idle goes from regular which is 900 rpm to about 300 rpm and every once in awhile it just shuts off without the idle going up and down it just drops to 300rpm and shuts off

Check your timing, TPS, MAP Sensor, and check that your IACV's internal vlave moves freely when you take it out. Sometimes they can get so bad that just cleaning them a little bit isn't enough, really soak that thing.

I would say a vacuum leak. Every time my car does that, there is a leak somewhere.

How I've always decided on if its a leak or not, turn on your car and let it idle (hopefully it doesn't die) then take off the pipe to your intake (like if you have a AEM cold air or w/e take that pipe off so there is just air and your throttle body).

Then put your hand almost all the way over the throttle body, like 95%. Carefull not to put your whole hand over it, it pulls the **** out of your hand If it idles normally after its almost all the way covered up, you have a vacuum leak, if not, i dunno

Hope that helps. It has for me.

Edit: Another reason i say its probably that is because other that at a stoplight or w/e, the car should drive just fine cuz a little more air wont hurt too much (might feel a little boggy at low RPM's) but when your stopped it will idle like ***.

I just got a code on mine, so check you O2 sensor it may be bad that in turn is causing the wrong fuel dilivery. This would cause a bad idle and maybe a shut off or two, I'm going to replace it and I will let you know if it fixes the problem.

Yea either did I for like 6 months and it had the worst Idle. Now I'm throwing a code, check your O2 sensor voltage to make sure.

a vacuum leak would make your idle fluctuate upwards... ie 900->1500, not down.
It sounds like your iacv isn't working properly though... with ignition on it should click when you unplug and plug it back in. when running the idle should drop/stall or nearly stall. why it's doing it when you push the clutch in.... I have no idea... braking will normally cause a small idle fluctuation... in combination with a fubar iacv could be possible...

i had a shitty idle of 400 it had dropped from a normal idle of about 850-900 and didnt throw a CEL for awhile, it ended up being my o2 sensor heater. So i just replaced with a bosch and the problem dissappeared

I am experiencing the same problem with idle dropping too low when hot. Mine is civic automatic 95EX. I'm waiting for my P28 ECU cause my MAP sensor voltage is low and it is idle related. Anyways, the ECU should be here this weekend and if I still experience the same problemwith new ECU, I would take my IACV apart one more time and really clean it and test it with a regular 9volt battery.

Pls post what your findings are on this low idle issue. Thx.
