Your car SHOULD idle below 1k.

600-800 is normal i guess.

mine does the same thing, but it idles REALLY low sometimes like at 300.

sometimes when im stoped at a red light and I have the car in neutral, the car will shake like it about to stall out, but it never does, it then goes back up a couple hundred rpm.

the idle is normal....

in any case, tightening the throttle cable(from the left side of the intake manifold) would open the throttle, creating a higher rpm idle

No, you don't adjust idle with the throttle cable adjustment. Never take advice from that person again. The throttle plate should be allowed to fully close.

650 RPM is the spec on a manual trans EG. Check the spec first before you freak out. Next, buy a digital diagnostic tach and plug it in. Your stock tach isn't accurate enough to tell you anything about idle. Next, remove your IAC and clean in out with carb cleaner. Also make sure you are up to date on your maintenance schedule, particularly your ignition timing. Check for vacuum leaks or if your throttle cable is too tight (if idle is too high). If it's still outside of spec after all this, mark your idle adjustment screw first, then using that tach you bought, turn it until it's within spec.

Any CEL's???

That's how the idle behaves when the O2 sensor is malfunctioning... the rpm's go down to 300...

Same here. It's HARDLY above the "pin" that the needle rests on when the motor is off.

sounds like everyone has this prob. you will never get 100%. at least not for any amount of time. i fucked with my idle adjustment screw all the time for like 2 years. never stayed. and get a honda manual and go by what it says for the proper way to take care of this. it does matter.

I too have been experimenting as others and have come to the conclusion that the computer will learn and adapt to cable adjustments. All adjusting the cable will do for you in the long run is get you better throttle response because there will be no slack for the cable to take up. This is how I have my car set up, before my car is warmed up it idles at nearly 2 grand but once it warms up it goes down to below 500 sometimes. It doesn't "nearly stall out" anymore though. I think I have it adjusted to the tight side of the spec. Haven't checked - but from what I remember of the specification it gives a range. You're supposed to measure how far the cable deflects why you push the cable itself straight down before the engine responds. You want very little deflection - however you don't want it to be all the way tight either because that means that the throttle is being held open by the cable and it's not resting against the stop.

ive been adjusting the throttle cable on a accord for like a while...then i soon discovered that it was the gas pedal... it was somewhat loose...if you stuck ur foot under the pedal and lifted it slightly the car would start to die. i dont know if thats normal but thats whats making my idle unstable.
