Default Idle Air Control Valve

Hello. I have a 1999 Honda Civic LX with the D16y7 engine. The vehicle started surging from 1-2000 rpm's. I diagnosed it as an IACV via several tests. Soon after replacing the valve, the surging stopped. I took it for a test drive and noticed that the vehicle was shifting oddly. There is hesitation when stepping on the gas to down shift. This only happens occasionally. Then a day later I got the P0505 check engine code. I checked for vacuum leaks and found a leak around the IACV valve. So I re-checked my work. Everything looked good. I took it apart and re-inspected the gasket. Then put it back together and torqued the bolts to the appropriate spec. I am still having vacuum leaks around the valve. I am trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Replace the gasket. Add a coating of high temp rtv, hondabond to the surface of the clean iacv. Reinstall. Let it cure and check for leak.

Thank you for the information. I will give that a try and report back.

Is the car a manual or automatic

The idle air control valve is really an expensive part, they can be cleaned and work like new again. I've never had to replace one on any of my hondas

It's an automatic. The IACV was shot. Resistance was high and applying 12 volts to it was doing nothing. I am holding off on the RTV for now. The mating surface seems very small and I was concerned that some of the RTV may get into the cooling system and intake and clog things up. Still trying to figure out some solutions to this issue.

I was saying, apply a coat of rtv on the outter lip of the iacv and not on the gasket. Thin layer. Majority of the time you don't need it. New gasket is all you need. If the iacv is broken, you may hit the junkyard for one. Cheaper then new..
