Identifying an LSD
I know this subject has been discussed before, but my searches only came up with FS threads. I'm about to go look at a trans tomorrow and the guy is telling me it has a quaife LSD in it, i know you can look and see if there's a limited slip or open diff. Can someone tell me EXACTLY how to look and what to look for.

Re: Identifying an LSD (jdmcivicsi522)
Jack the front up, put it in gear, and spin one wheel, if the other spins the same way it's LSD...obviously if they spin in the opposite direction it's a regular differential..'tis what I heard anyways.
Also, it says LSD on the tranny code.

Re: Identifying an LSD (96-EJ6 B18C)
thanks guys, i guess i forgot to mention that the trans isn't hooked up to the car, it's just on the ground being stored...but if i can see through it, then there's an LSD. And just to make sure, if it''s open diff, then there will be something going through it? thanks again for the help guys.

Also this won't help you at all because an lsd tranny will allow the other wheel to spin the opposite direction also. Kinda goes back to if you don't know from proof or experience.
Please stop advicing people on "I heard".
Come on people believe nothing you hear and half of what you see.

well it really doesn't help him since the tranny isn't even in a car.

Doesn't matter, if it was in a car it is still bad advice.
OP Good luck with your new tranny. Your gonna like the results.
