Default identifying an LS transmission

so i was looking at a tranny my friend just got w/ his LS swap. the guy said the tranny was from a 99 gsr, but it says s80 on the housing. i had though only LS tranny's said s80 on them. what exactly can i look for on the tranny to verify whether it is a gsr or LS transmission?

Actually.
JDM 95-01 ITR, 97-01 USDM ITR, 92-00 SiR/CTR, 94-01 USDM GSR, 93.5-01 JDM SiR/SiG, or 94-01 USDM LS.

A search might do some good.

the swap isnt going into the car. the guy sold a royally FUCKED up motor to a kid that didtnt know what to look for. the *complete* swap he bought has no distributor bolts, was missing two flywheel bolts, throttle body has no TPS or MAP on it, two cam cap bolts were missing and one was broken off into the head, he said the motor had never seen boost yet it had a cometic headgasket, nuformz (POS) blockguard it looks like he hammered in himself and a valve cover breather. oh yeah, and the valves are all burned to **** and one is even BRAND new. so yeah, basically im trying to find out if the guy dicked him on the tranny too because if he did he's trying to get money back from the kid and sell the tranny and part the motor out. if the motor worked and was in teh car i'd know if it was an LS or not...but i dont know how to verify w/out having it running in acar.

I don't know of any way to tell unless you A) open the transmission, or B) install it on the car.
