Identifying JDM D15 vtec, Help
I tried searching but there is just so much information I'm a little confused. D-series are not my motors and I don't know where to start. I'm looking at buying a used JDM motor that need a new tranny. The guy only sent me a pic at the moment. Can anyone tell what motor this is by the pic. It does not have Vtec on the valve cover like the other JDM motors i see. Could some briefly list the stats or a link to the different D15 motors and possible tranny combos! Thank You very much

Here is the pic, I know this is not the best indicator, but I know many people who can look at this and tell right away! THANKS

It's probably a '92-'95 D15B VTEC. It has a VTEC solenoid, so obviously it's a VTEC engine. It has VTI written or carved into the distributor; which is a Japanese model that came with a D15B VTEC engine. It appears to only have 1 VTEC solenoid, so that would cancel out the possibility of being a 3-stage VTEC engine from a '96-'00 Civic VTi.
Assuming it is in fact this specific version of the D15B, here's some info on it:

Civicspoon
Thanks so much, that made it much easier,
I know where to look but I did not notice it sticking out that much in the pic. haha, the car is a bit away so I will have to drive to see. I'm trying to get the guy to tell me what motor it is. Then I have to source a transmission for it!

JDM 3 Stage D15B Vtec. You can just make out the second vtec solenoid, its to the right of the one you can see clearly. Also notice the dipstick on the side, a dead giveaway of an OBD2 D-series.

Re: Identifying JDM D15 vtec, Help
Ok so i'm researching the Stage 3 D15B engine to learn more about. It basic basic terms is this engine good or bad? I have to match it with a transmission so i'm debating buying whole B18B engine and transmission or find a d series tranny to bolt to this.
