Default I weighed my '96 CX tonight...

Hey,

Just thought I'd share my weight results. My car is a '96 CX...no power steering/doors/windows. No AC. 'Powered' by a d16z6 engine and tranny (just a crappy header, no I/E (intake resonator removed)..saving for swap!). Stopping power courtesy of integra 4 wheel disc brakes...with slotted/drilled rotors up front. With the spare/jack in the car and full interior on a little less than 1/8th tank of gas, my car weighed:

2115 pounds without me in it. I didn't think it would be that light...I was surprised..it was probably the lack of gas though hehe.

What are the weights of your guys' EKs?

Later

Hey DewinW.
I read that you have a z6 under the hood . That would be the 92-95 SOHC VTEC. Since I dont have large funds for a swap I was interested in getting a Y8(96-00 SOHC VTEC). Is there a differance with that engine and tranny ? For less then a $1000 a excellent y8 + tranny + ecu.... can be found easily . So how is it ?

LOL. You people are nuts! 2410 heavy ***? Geez, I thought anything in the 2000's was pretty light. Some of my friends have cars that weigh in the 3000's, and close to 4. Now that is heavy.

actually it isnt really the 96-98's that are heavy, its the 99 & 00's that weigh a lot more! Im pretty sure those pigs weigh about 200+ pounds more than the 96-98's. 2100 is really good !! Can't wait to weigh mine! But yea, the eg ****'s try to make the ek's sound like they were made of lead.

2100 is kinda light? should maybe compare weight with another scale? Not trying to be jerk, just that ek 96-up hatchs should weigh 2200-2300+! if its really 2100 then thats sweet! peace, eric

Hey 98slvrcx,

When I got my car, it had this engine and tranny combo in it. I can't really give you an opinion on the old engine/tranny, but it IS a difference of about 20 HP and MUCH better gearing. However, unless you are going to turbo the y8, I would save a little bit more for something with more torque (a 1.8L at least). Put more than 2 people in the car and you can really feel it bogging trying to speed up

I have no I/H/E because I'm saving for a B20Z

And for the other guys:

My car was weighed on one of those truck weighing scales. It gives a reading in Kilograms that increments by 10 Kg. With me in the car it was fluctuating between 1020 Kg and 1030 Kg...so I assumed a weight of 1025 Kg. This equals about 2260 Pounds - My 145 pound *** = 2115 pounds

Now I am not sure how accurate this scale is..it is probably better suited at much heavier trucks, etc. AT least it's an estimate that is about +/- 10 Kg off.

Don't forget, according to edmunds.com a 96 Civic CX hatchback has a curb weight of about 2240 pounds. When they get that number, that is usually a full car I think...gas, etc..

Im sorry, but that scale HAD to be wrong! Most of the EK hatches are in the 2400lb range. How is yours almost 300lbs lighter without drastic weight reduction?
Mine wieghed 2420 w/out me or spare tire, 1/8th tank, and LS/vtec swap. Dont tell me my b-series weighs 300lbs more than a z6.

OK maybe it was wrong..I don't really have any other scales to compare it to! I'll have to find another weigh spot and try it again!

DewinW
I know that its not a torquey engine but at least its better then a y7. I would not want to spend 2-3k on a engine and then worry about breaking it...... I think that for me a 127hp engine would be nice especially in a hatch . It would still be a hybrid so I would have some braggin rights . How is it on the highway? Maybe your engine is tired ?

Yeah you could probably say my engine is tired...over 200 000 kms. It's pretty good on the highway...downshifting from 5th to 3rd is kinda cool..haha!

Perhaps if I got I/H/E I'd be be lot happier with my car. As long as you don't have more than 2 people in the car, it is still pretty quick...for what it is. Adding I/H/E will give you about 120 hp at the wheels...i think stock it's about 100-110 @ the wheels..(what I have). The transmission is the best one for a D series, at least in North America...and it's still pretty good on gas!

You're right, these engines are cheaper to fix than B series ones...that's a nice advantage!

If the Y8 is what you want to get, then go for it...just don't expect to go really fast without a lot of money....same for all cars though. And remember, the lighter your car is, the better!
