I want to make sure I installed this right...
Alright I installed an AEM Short Ram Intake the other day on my 1992 Honda Civic DX... I had a little trouble at first when I read the directions but when I sat them down it was a piece of cake. I just wanted to make sure I have everything connected properly and had a few questions along the way.
Are those holes supposed to be like that or is there something that goes into them?
What kind of cleaners should I use to clean off the tubes and all the **** under my hood. I want it to be clean and nice looking but at the same time I don't want to mess it all up.
Last thing... What do ya'll recommend putting on my car next. I'm thinking about putting a better engine into it but my friend that's gonna help me is outta town until the middle of August... How much would it cost for a mechanic to do it for me? I'm not that good at modifying stuff in cars 'cause I'm really new to this but I'd like to gain a lot of experience. Let me know 'cause I'm anxious to put something new on it.
Thanks a lot!

the intake looks fine to me.
well the next thing you should put on your car, is suspension.
since you don't have much experience with cars or motors, just stick with the D-series for now. do some researching and reading. when you're ready, then you do an engine swap. just learn more about the car, instead of jumping to the conclusion, "OMG i need a swap," and know nothing about your car, or cars in general.
well goodluck with your car. search and read. there are plenty of informative threads on here.

When I say my friend is going to "help me out" I really mean do it for me while I sit back, sip a little lemonade, and learn a lot... He's really really good with cars and he's anxious to fix my car up but I know what your saying... I want to put in some easy stuff right now and learn a little more as I go along... What do you recommend me getting as far as suspension though? Thanks man.

not sure but someone told me that you should unplug your battery and plug it back in so that your sensors know that you now have installed an intake, someone correct me if i'm wrong. it won't hurt though, you just might have to reset your clock.
anyways...
learn how a combustion engine works.
learn to change your spark plugs, change your oil. learn to flush, drain, refill your coolant in rad. learn to top up fluids. rotate tires. umm clean your air filter for your new intake system, i suggest a K&n filter cleaner products. change lights. learn all of the basics. then you may have a better understanding of your car. it's your car you should learn how to maintain it.
oh a good forum for you to learn about your sohc is

register there you'll learn everything you need to know about honda single cam engines.

Re: I want to make sure I installed this right... (frostcivic)
Before I installed the intake I unplugged the battery and then plugged it back in after it was installed 'cause that's what the installation instructions said to do first. I know how to do all the stuff you mentioned but I don't know **** about engines... I got a lot to learn I just want to add stuff here and there as I go along... I'll check out that website though thanks.
Oh, and how would I go about cleaning everything up under my hood? It's all dirty and nasty looking...

if your eventually going to get an engine swap, i would bother buying performance parts for your stock motor.
buy some after market shocks and some lowering springs or coil overs. you may want to buy some good tires also.
use simple green to clean your motor. don't let it soak on the motor though. spray some on the motor and then wipe it down with a brush. then spray it down with a little bit of water.
use armoral on all the black stuff to make it shiny. i can powder coat your valve cover for 50 bucks and make it look real nice if you want.

the oly thing I see that you might want to change is I believe that the washer for the rubber mount goes on top of the bracket, then the bracket then the mount. you have the washer under the bracket. Nothing big.

Re: (AzntaggeR)
Looks perfect
Even doing something as simple as an intake still feels good once you get it all installed. Have some fun with the Dseries you got in there, get used to it, then go from there.

everything looks AOK to me. intake is always a good start. just make sure u read all ur directions and never take a shortcut down the road otherwise ull pay.
As for cleaning your engine bay. I cleaned a fellow members engine bay. lots of time elbow grease. simple green lots of rags and patience. and a 1/2 pack of cigs to ease the nerves
Here is what we had to start with.
Me workin on TJ's wiring
Almost Done
There now it looks 100x better

u aint done bro. u GOTTA take off the resonator. its a bitch cuz there's like2 or 3 hidden bolts u gotta get to but u'll get more air flow through the opening of where the resonator is sitting. and get a clamp for ur TB. also when u get a chance but a cheap ebay intake and add it to ur short ram to make it a cold air. u aint doing ur car a favor by sucking hot air from ur engine bay.
