I want to get a BAR sticker for swap. (Cali Question)
My friend and I are going to be swapping a 99 B16A2 (OBDII) into my 95 CX (OBDI). I spoke to a smog referee today, but I would like to hear from those of you who already have BAR stickers. He said I shouldn't try to convert the car to OBDII, because there are so many sensors it would be a headache and not terribly worth it. (The guy knew his Honda stuff so he wasn't saying doing the swap wasn't worth it.) He said I should set the engine compartment up like a 95 delsol vtec and lie to the ref. testing the car about the engines age. What have any of you done? And yes I did search.

Re: I want to get a BAR sticker for swap. (JRSC EM1)
I think you should be ok if you drop in a OBD-II B16 and convert it to an OBD-I motor. That would satisfy the "motor must be same year or newer than vehicle" rule and will also be OBD-I. I wouldn't bother lying to the referee, there isn't much that they can't find out about the motor/car by looking up vin #'s and checking wiring and other emissions connections.

Wouldn't you be able to use the intake mani, throttle body, and distributor from an obdI car on the obdII engine? That way, your ecu could stay obdI and you'd have the newer engine. Still staying legal.
