I want to end all D-series oil pump arguments!
PLEASE, what flows better the z6 or y8???
people say the z6's are better and reason y8's spin their bearings is the oil pump is too weak.
if you search you get nothing. i have see way to many arguments and i think we all need end it all. so please help.
only post if you have a logical answer.

Go Tigers!
y8 has a weak spring and it generally sucks (and blows)
And yes, it is the root cause of most 96-00 D engine failures.
This can be solved by purchasing the one in my sig

What was your point of posting that you looked at my car domain then, and I do not care what your opinion is on what is nasty. It was a general statement related to the topic of discussion.

It's usually on boosted engines...

I don't know which one "flows" better but I know the Z6 works better. There's really no difference until you boost, that's why Y8's tend to spin more bearings or throw more rods (usually spin more bearings) than Z6's. Daily driver shouldn't matter. There's a guy around here w/ a 450whp Y8....obviously his oil pump's working fine...(but I doubt it's stock).
EDIT:
With it said that it usually only happens with boosted motors...they still fail more often than Z6's on regular stock motors...

BTW: End all arguments? It was only you and one other guy in that last thread arguing that they were the same, everybody else knew they were different. I tried showing you by showing the price difference and different part #'s...then some cumstain told me that just b/c the prices are different and the part #'s are different, doesn't mean they're different parts....

Re: I want to end all D-series oil pump arguments! (USDMej1)
you won't get any more volume out of your pump by doing this but you can shim the spring to increase the pressure.
toga makes a high volume pump for the y8s. i've built 2 motors with that pump and thus far no plroblems. i don't have any flow numbers on them, sorry.
the togas cost $115, and i belive the factory oil pumps were $80. i figured the extra 35 was worth it

Re: I want to end all D-series oil pump arguments! (confidence)
are there any preventive measures or any good maintenance habits to get into to help DECREASE the chances of spinning a rod bearing in the y8 or z6 motors?
