I used Brake Fluid to clean my flywheel
I was doing my swap the other day and the flywheel was rusted. So my friend told me to use brake fluid to clean it off. Now I bolted on the transmission and everything, but I haven't drove the car yet because it's not done.
And now today, he asks me if I used brake fluid or brake cleaner. I told him brake fluid like you said. And now he tells me I was supposed to use brake cleaner.
So is it ok that I used brake fluid or do I need to take it all apart and use brake cleaner?

It would be a very good idea to pull your tranny and reclean it with brake cleaner. The brake fluid will leave a residue that will keep your clutch disc from grabbing and the caustic nature of brake fluid could cause more damage to the disc itself.

If its a new clutch and flywheel then i suggest tearing it appart and cleaning the brake fluid off. If its an old one that you dont car about thats going to be replaced soon then leave it on (as long as you dryed everything up good.)

Clean it. Despite making the clutch slip if it slings onto the rear main and/or tranny seals it will make them soften up and leak. Used car salemen used to use an old trick of adding a tablespoon or two of break fluid to leaky cars in order to soften up the seals and make them swell,closing off the leak...of course they totally fail not long after.

Yeah, tear it apart and get the flywheel clenaed. Also, get it resurfaced, if you haven't done so.

You don't need to break in a clutch for 500 miles, that's a myth. Drive it around town from a dead stop for twenty minutes then have at it. I highly suggest scuffing the contact pucks with some sandpaper before installation, though, as it will all but obviate the need for any sort of civility when driving.
