I think my cv joints might be going bad but i am not sure
yesterday i had the car on jacks with the wheels off and had the engine on in first gear and when the wheels were spinning it was making a ton of noise from what seemed to be the cv joints but i am not sure. When i put the wheels on it went away. Is this normal or may this be an early indication the cv joints are going. I don't notice any noise or jerking at all when driving. I have a spoon clutch type 1.5 way lsd. prior to one week ago it was chattering alot and then i added some redline friction modifier which was probly the best ten dollars i have ever spent all the chatter is gone know but i can still feel the lsd. I mention that because logically it seems like driving with chatter like that for a month could have been pretty bad on my cv joints. Also when i had the car on jacks i looked for play in the half axles. I noticed on the driver there is a very little bit of play up down left right and maybe like 1/8-1/4 of play back and forth on the passenger side it is a little bit less in both dimensions. How much play should there be if any. What other ways can i tell if they are bad. When i turn the wheels while in gear on jacks it seems like i can hear a little bit of chatter from the driver side. Also if they are going bad should i wait for it to get worse since it isn't noticeable at all while driving.
BTW as you can see i put my questions in bold if you don't want to read everything i wrote

If a CV joint has 1/4" play, it's on it's way out. I assume you are talking about an inner joint, they seem to wear out faster than the outers.
How long will they last? Who knows. You say they don't pop and click when you drive, they may break next week or next year. Just be prepared to fix them.

If they are going out and you are on a budget, might as well run them until you have money. They are done anyways, and will just make that annoying sound.
