I suspect the wire harness is a common problem..
I am putting a B16 VTEC OBD1 into my del sol and I am trying to find a place online to purchase the CORRECT wire harness for it...I see lots of random things on ebay that all look different and I dunno what to buy or from where...any links or suggestions would be most appreciated.

What model Sol? if it's an Si you can use your stock harness, and just add the wire for the knock sensor.
If it is an S model, you can use that harness as well and add knock sensor, vtec pressure and vtec solenoid wires.
You may have to extend a few wires, but this will be your cheapest/easiest option. That's how mine is done.
Edit: Just saw in your sig it's a 96 si. You can use your d16y8 harness on the b16.

Do you have a b16 del sol throttle cable? you will need one. (I have one for sale $15 shipped)
You will also need del Sol vtec shift linkage. I may know where you can get that too.
where are you located? If you are in Nor Cal, I would be willing to help you install it.

You can always use this part: http://www.swapshopracing.com/index1.html
It is a throttle cable swap part from Innovative. It allows you to use the stock D-series cable with your B swap. The cool part is that it only costs $15!
There are a couple of companies that make complete replacement harnesses for the B-series swap...or you could combine the swap harness with a harness "tuck" and get both good looks and a correctly wired harness. Otherwise just check the "pin out" diagrams on the forums for the correct way to connect your new B-series engine.

Check these guys out first:
http://www.swapshopracing.com/index1.html
That is a very complete list of harnesses that are available for a B-series swap. Also, if you Google your Honda year and engine model you should find some smaller companies who make "tucked" harnesses.

Re: I suspect the wire harness is a common problem..
i have a 2000 honda civic and i had to swap the motor because i blew the first motor up, and my cuz put it in and after they got it put it and the car would not rev past 3 1/2 RPMs, and that problem was a single wife out of the distributer, now my car will not start. my motor is a 1.6 vtec, there is no spark so i bought a new distributer and that didnt solve anything, people have told me it would be the computer and i have no clue. so anything would be great thanks. please email me with any answers at

You can get the correct throttle cable from honda for about 10 more than what that bracket costs. Or you could get the one I have that was only used for 3 months for the same price.

If the motor is out I would change the timing belt and water pump, since they are much easier to do before it's installed.

yeah, buy them from honda for the new motor. Not sure on cost since I get a discount. I want to say it's about $120? Call your local dealership and ask.

Re: I suspect the wire harness is a common problem..
Ordered all of it...but on the reciept I noticed it says "throttle wire" instead of "cable" does that make a difference?
Here are some other little tid bits I'd like advice on...I'd like a new cold air intake but I don't want something extremly expensive or fancy, just something adequate.
What on Here is like that and would work with my car?
And I have the stock radiator for the del sol, should I upgrade to a performance one or can I live without it for now?

Re: I suspect the wire harness is a common problem..
the throttle wire is the same thing as the throttle cable.
You should be fine with the stock radiator.
If you live in a state that has rules about what intakes you can use and still pass emissions testing, then get one that's 50 state legal.

Re: I suspect the wire harness is a common problem..
Okay back to the wiring I ran into a problem, I got the motor today and everything in the motor is fine except the wiring. It looks like when they took it out of whatever car it was in they cut the wires so their are segments of wires cut so theres no plugs...the harness on the end fits into the computer but I have a ton of little wires coming out of black plastic that have been cut....should I replace the entire wiring or what and if so where do I get that? I'm really confused on all this.

Ok and my vtec radiator hoses don't fit? The neck on the motor is to big? Did Honda give me the wrong hoses or what?

Re: I suspect the wire harness is a common problem..
I talked to the guy who sold me the motor today and he said the reason the wires have no plugs and all the little spliced wires are throughout the harness i because I don't need them and that it should plug in fine....is this true?
And I still can't figure out the radiator hoses. Whats the deal? The DOHC Honda VTEC hoses don't fit. Its a B16a vtec motor and the hoses fit the radiator but not the motor? What hoses do I need?
