Just from the sounds of it it doesn't sound like a "little" problem.

if it hasnt been giving you any problems i would suggest that its not your tranny. Check you fluid level and any thing associated with the automatic tranny

Also check the cable going to the throttle spring.

Does it go in reverse? Your clutch packs could be worn and you would need a rebuild. Get the kit from TCI for $220 it will bullet proof your trans and it will last forever no matter how much power you throw at it. Or you can get some new clutch packs and do it yourself. Pulling the engine is about $300 labor and about $250 labor to rebuild the trans. Rebuilt trans costs around $800 so its better just to rebuild your own with better than stock parts. Or you can call engine importers and get one for super cheap. Just don't buy one from someone that's done a auto to manual conversion. They've definately flogged the hell out of it (a mistake I've made).

Hondas design on their automatics is inherently strong, they are more similar to a manual trans than an auto. It's a unique design from all other automatic transmissions, and most people don't know that the torque converter is the only part on the car to be made with carbon fiber from the factory. Honda clutch packs are kind of small though, so it limits how much torque you can throw down. I'm not sure what that limit is but its more power than most people achieve. You can't really wear the gears down unless you throw it in park while you're driving, and that will only damage your parking gear. Is it your hobby to rev it up in neutral and drop it in gear? That will destroy it very quickly. Is there a big gob of metal shavings on your tranny drain plug?

After you get it rebuilt or replace it with a good used trans, get yourself a trans fluid cooler. They're cheap and easy to install and will extend the life of your fresh trans.

And no one will tell you to swap it for a manual after you turbo the car and take them for a ride. Then they realize that you never lose boost until you let off the throttle. And how quickly it spools up with all that torque multiplication.

Let the ignorant flaming begin!

****I apologize for thread jacking, but while we are on the subject... ****

so how long do you think a bone stock D16Y8 automatic transmission can handle being boosted, say with a typical turbo kit? I want a manual, but don't want to do or pay for a conversion and can't get rid of my car (2000 EX), plus if my car were fast I wouldn't mind if it was an automatic...
