well anyways, on friday i went to a smog check station and the guy was a total dick... he actually called in the carb# for my header to make sure it was legal... since i had a new cat and stock airbox and nothing else done to the car besides the header, i went ahead and did the test...and FAILED , my NOx level was too high so i went home and changed the airfilter and retarded the timing 2 degrees below stock... so the next day i went to a gas station/smog check station which was recommended by a friend...the guy didnt even wanna touch my car!! i told him it was completely stock, and he kept bitchin about my header and my timing...******...so my last hope, a place all the way in wilmington owned by some ghetto people, i thought they were gonna jack me but they ended up hookin me up. the owner also owns a tuner shop which is real cool... i dont know what they did but i passed with my airbox, stock timing, dc header and random tech cat... didnt pay more than $80 ( sorry for writin a long story, but im jus happy i didnt have to pay $200 for a hookup...

I had the same problem. the first guy iwent to was a real dick but he said i will pass you for sure. but ended up i became a gross polluer. pissed me off!! so i though i had to go to a somg only center but i got something in the mail to go back to a smog check so i found a guy to do it for me for 100 bucks. but i also found a smog only center that will charge a 150 if i ever get it. i think i am gonna get in 2 years because i am a g.p.

thats not as bad as mines, i took my car to a "smog or dont pay" shop because i couldnt find anyone at the time to hook me up.

anyways, i have sensors and plugs that were hanging all over the place(i was using a gsr harness with my b16 at the time). ontop of that i ran straight piping .... the only thing that guy said was to go put on a cat.

i asked him how much was a cat(i minus well buy one instead of getting tagged by CHP) but he qouted me $180. i said hell no...

i proceeded down to a local shop that i normally go to and took one of the guys headers that was getting a swap and went to the muffler shop and had it welded. so i headed back to the smog shop and the guy passed it.... and people said JDM motors wont pass smog, especially in cali

when you advance to "hybrid/built/boosted" status, youll find out how much harder it is to pass smog.
if you cant pass with a stock motor, you suck.

lol! My Y8 passed with flying colors using a DC Sports 4-2-1 SS header, A'PEXi N1 cat-back, AEM CAI, and AEM pulley kit. passed like it was bone stock. now that it's turbocharged, i dunno what's going to happen when October comes around.
