pI just got a ticket today at around 11 am. Ticket was for unreasonable noise(modified Muffler). I just got out of the car wash and a cop came right behind me and pulled me over. I think the max I was going was 15 mph because I just came out of the car wash. I am a full time student at a technical school and I dont have time to go to court for this bullshit. How can I fight this summons? I know my exhaust is not loud and I didnt even know NY had a rule about this. I know there are a few areas where loud noises are not permitted and I am nowhere near those areas. This pisses me off. I wasnt even driving fast or loud. I'm not that stupid to even do that in front of a cop and now I dont even know what to do. I have a feeling I'm going to end up paying a fine. If anyone can helpthe violation number is 24-227. I need your peoples help ASAP!!

Heres what I found....

24-227 Exhausts. Except as otherwise provided in this code, no person shall cause or permit discharge into the open air of the exhaust of any device, including but not limited to any steam engine, diesel engine, internal combustion engine or turbine engine, so as to create an [unnecessary] unreasonable noise.

Can someone help me out here???????????????

there's some slip that came with your exhaust that says it is DOT approved for sound and emmissions. take that to court with u, btw.... what exhaust do u have?

you will have to pay. even if you took the time out to go to court, the judge will ask the cop for his statement; then smile and tell you to pay. excessive noise will depend on the cops opinion, unfortunately the cop has the right to make that call. basically his word against yours, sucks!

what's up i got a ticket for that too but it was in upstate new york. i plead not guilty and mailed a receipt for the exhaust.....oh yeah i live in long island...havn't had a problem here yet

Me and my friend were drivin in his WRX last NIGHT. A cop pulled us over and gave him a fine for 150 because his windows were to dark!?!

The cop was a real dick also, how can he tell anyways, it was at night.

in new jersey the law about exhaust is if a cop can hear your car from 30 FEET, your exhaust is too loud... i know this b/c i got a ticket for it, but i didnt fight it b/c the cop pulled me over for speeding(although i wasnt doing more than 10 over the limit). i can hear a minivan from 30 feet... this just gives the cop probible cause to pull anyone over he feels like... kind of like the "i pulled you over b/c i saw you werent wearing a seatbelt" bullshit when in fact you were wearing a seatbelt

You can get off on the ticket without having to pay anything by showing that your exhaust is legal. Rather than going through the hassle of fighting it, just get something from a shop that says your exhaust was replaced with an OEM one, or put your stock exhaust back on and take it to any precinct. An officer there will give you a piece of paper showing that your exhaust was corrected and you can send that in along with the ticket to get off on it. You usually have 24 hours from the time of the violation so you have to do it quick. PM if you need more info or help.

Exactly The same thing happend to me in October before last. Just got a recipt stating that the thing was fixed, didn't even have to show it either.

Are companies allowed to make exhausts without having any documentation saying its street legal? I just called up OBX and they told me they had nothing.... I wanted something from this company to back my claim up just in case.... someone let me know... they have no info.... decibal wise and street legal wise. If I knew i would get introuble for an exhaust and it isnt street legal i wouldnt have gotten this no name brand bullshit.

THIS WHAT REALLY HAPPEND. DUNKIN DONUTS WAS CLOSED SO THE COP WAS IN A BAD MOOD. SO HE FOUND SOME 1 TO PIK ON. ..like he said show that the exhust is street legal. i live in brooklyn, some cops are kool, some are ********. hopefully the cop wont show up that day. if he gives u a ticket, hes gotta give every 1 else one, becuase every one and there mother have one of those exhausts. 93 civic
