Default I need opinions on getting more power

Instead of making a new thread i decided to edit this. its the same category. Im leaning toward a turbo system. My info

Stock b16a EG hatch. id like 200-230 whp

Question #1 What size turbo would be "safe" for a stock internal b16.

Question #2 Would it be better if i bought a turbo kit or piece one together.

i would say NA. Boost doesn't fall into the reliable category.

Yea, boost is fun but NA is the way i would go for a DD. and depending on how much power you really want you might be spending a lot more on a NA motor.

really.....i was thinking NA would be the cheap route. if i wanted around 170-185 Bhp NA. what would roughly be the cost?

you could boost it and still be reliable its all in the tune and dont go over 10psi and you'd be ok.

umm not really a certain budget. main reason is because im not sure how much it would take to s b16 to 170-180 bhp. I would love boost if the price is right.

doesn't a b16 make like 160? doing alll the basics should bring you up to like 165-168. like exhaust, intake, ect.

you can also get some cams to up your power.

if you where to get a nice legit turbo set up it would be 1500 up plus tuning and what not maybe with a hondata.

my friend built his own turbo setup with parts he gathered and it worked legit he just lacked the tuning and it cost him lest than all that.

You won't pull that out of a B16A N/A for a reasonable price. The displacement is simply too low.

If you're going the NA route, build the block, get it bored out to a 1.8 (or just buy an LS block, it's probably 95% interchangeable anyway), run an LS/VTEC build.

If not, go the supercharger route, it's typically pretty decently expensive but it'll give you the N/A style power (opposed to turbos where you typically have to wait for them to spool up for power) - you'll have the power with an SC throughout your entire torque band, but it'll generally be less.

I'd recommend that if ~230 in a DD is all you're looking for.

^^Stock blocks are perfectly fine for his goals. My stock GSR made 315whp/216wtq for 2 years before i decided to build it...

You should go to the Forced Induction forum and read the FAQ. It will give you a lot of good insight and will aide in your decision. Personally, i would boost it. I have a boosted GSR (see sig) as my daily and it is perfectly reliable. Sure, people will say that they are less reliable than NA setups, but it depends on the quality of parts used and your attention to detail. If you slap something together for $1000, it isn't going to last...big surprise, but if you spend your money wisely and put thought and effort into your setup, it will be as reliable as it was NA.

Have you looked into a super charger? for your goal i would rather have one.
You could also look at a greddy bolt on turbo kit, they pop up every now and again, and from I have been told and seen they are built to achieve these types of numbers.

wrong..boost is reliable if you put the money up for it and have an awsome tune...its all about the tune u can safely run 6-10psi on stock internals with a really good tune..stock crank is rated to 700 hp...its all on your budget..you want to have a reliable and fun car to drive but a cheap build dosent fall into fun and reliable
