Default I need a little info on my automatic transmission

I was just wondering what type of automatic transmission I have in my 99 civic ex (ie TH400 etc). Secondly, I am looking to put a shift kit on it and I cannot find a brand or site that sells them. So, if any of you know what kind of tranny I have and where to get and what kind of shift kit to get, the information would be a GREAT help.

I am not aware if they make a "shift kit". Honda auto trannies are original in the sense that they use a main and counter shaft, like in their manuals, but instead of synchros and shift forks, they use clutch packs. I'm sure someone somewhere has made performance clutch packs to grab shifts harder, but I don't know.

In light of that, what I would really like to know is how to make my tranny perform better.... what parts I need to buy... etc etc

how is it performing badly???

You could tear it down, inspect your valve bodies, rebuild the clutch packs and run a high performance torque converter. It's still going to rob you of some power tho.....it's not like it's a 1400 hp Supra that needs an auto trans

Its not performing badly, I am just trying to get rid of some of the hp loss, make it shift a little.... hmm... faster I guess and to make it a little stronger so it can handle a turbo kit. I understand that it is cheaper just to take this route then to try to completely change it over to a manual... that and a lot simpler.

Thanks for the help I will be looking for a performance torque converter now, I am already looking at clutch packs from your first post.

yeah, I don't even know if a company makes performance clutch pakcs yet, but if you want to spend the money, rebuilding them would be a nice upgrade in itself. Honda autos shift a lot harder than most other manufacturers anyways, a little sportier you could say. Keep looking, I'm sure you could find some performance upgrades for it somewhere. Most people will say auto-to-manual swap tho
