I NEED HELP ON A SUSPENSION QUESTION......PLEASE!!!!
Ok. i have a 94 civic ex coupe and i am replacing my stock spring and shocks. my question is, if i take out the whole rear assembly of shock and spring, do i hjave to take it apart if i'm putting a coilover system and new shocks. can anyone help on this subject. i was told just to unblot it but i think that it might have too much pressure and blow off my head. thanks

I just put on a set of neuspeed race springs on my eg, you can take the spring and shock assembly off compressed, you don't need to disassemble it on the car. On all four corners though I removed the bolts for the lower arms, it makes it easier to get the shock/spring assemblies out.

If you're putting in a completely new/different shock/springs system, you shouldn't have to disassemble the original shock/spring system itself- Just remove it altogether.

some coilovers use the upper seat of the stock spring/strut. In that case you would have to dissassemble both front and rear. What coilovers are you putting on?

Re: I NEED HELP ON A SUSPENSION QUESTION......PLEASE!!!! (Bailhatch)
I usually loosen the top locking screws on all four shock/strut so it'll be easier to disassemble when you have them all out ans compressed!

Be careful when you dissassembel the stock shocks if you have to reuse the pillow mounts.
Lay the shock on its side with neither of the ends pointing at you and loosen them slowly. The fronts have more preload than the rears so the pieces will fly a little further. hehe

Re: I NEED HELP ON A SUSPENSION QUESTION......PLEASE!!!! (func-tion)
For your sake, considering the fact that you seem to be lacking in suspension swap knowledge, I suggest that you disregard any advice given to you which involves tricks or shortcuts in removing the upper pillow mount and compressing the spring.
Since you're a suspension n00b, I strongly suggest you do it with the proper tools...i.e. A spring compressor.
BTW, like Bailhatch said, whether or not disassembly of the original shock/spring system is necessary depends upon what struts you're replacing it with. Some of them require the use of the original pillow mounts.
If the new ones come with their own pillow mounts, you can save yourself a lot of time by not having to disassemble the original system.

1. you have new shocks and new coilovers
2. take out old shock/spring assembly
3. go to autozone/checkers and rent (its FREE) a spring compressor
4. use spring compressor and get the hat/bump stops/nuts off the old assembly
5. put the hat/bump stops/nuts (make sure you remember how they go in order) on the new shocks/coilver assembly
6. do the reverse of the begging
7. you're done

did you look at the c-speed thread?
well, if you didnt
1. trunk, take the two bolts holding it on top
2. lca
-jack the car
-take off wheel
-either take off the top bolt that holds the lca to the car or take the bolt holding it to the hub
-take off the bolt holding the shock to the lca
-push lca down and then take shock assembly out.
i beleive thats what i remember from memory

Re: I NEED HELP ON A SUSPENSION QUESTION......PLEASE!!!! (blkeg)
i had gc and koni yellows b4, they're a great match and the ride is excellent but itll cost you around 750-800 new.
so i would rather go for tein ss, which is about 850-900 new, and you dont have to deal with the reassembly of the shock.
