I need flywheel help...
I have three flywheels right now(one is in use though), two of which are just sitting around...one is from a 1990 CRX HF, and the other is from a 1992 Civic VX ....can either of these be lightened and put on my d15b vtec motor?

Both of those flywheels should be the same. I have a D15B myself, and I lightened my stock flywheel by four pounds, down from 16.5 to 12.5 pounds. It is well worth it. Honda uses chromoly steel for their flywheels, so it will be strong even when lightened.

I wish I could reply to your IM, but the limitations placed on a new user by this site prevent it. Send an email to jamesmtruett@earthlink.net and I will get back to you.

Re: I need flywheel help... (Night_Ryder)
After reading a few posts about lightened flywheels, it seems that people lose a bit on the low end so doing this mod is not an option. I need all the low end I can find...I have d15b vtec!

You don't lose torque. You lose some of the kinetic energy from the flywheel. Would you rather use your torque to drive the wheels, or spin up the heavier flywheel? The only driveability issues with the 12lb flywheel are it takes maybe 200-300 more rpm when starting out in first gear. It is easier on the transmission too because the lighter flywheel allows the engine to slow down faster between shifts.
