I need Air Compressor Help
alright i want to get an aircompressor that i can use at my house.. dont want to spend to much maybe get like a 3-10 gallon tank... how much psi is good enough.. i stumbled upon a 3 gallon 125 psi craftsman one... looked nice and was for 100 bucks no tax or anything.. would 125 psi be enough to take a crank bolt off or an axle bolt off..
thanks for the responses..

No. You need more volume then that small unit can give.
I have the $299. one from Sears, it drives the 3/4 impact gun I run it at 150psi. We did break the 3/4 to 1/2 adaptor the other day trying to get a axle nut off a Interga.
I bought a black one from Sears for my work, it's $475. and runs 175psi. It's also makes much less noise when it runs.
Sorry, this is one of the things where you get what you pay for.

For a home/personal use air compressor I would recomend no smaller than a 30 gallon unit with 3-5 hp. Hit up Sears and check out all the Craftsman compressors, you should be looking to spend in the range of 300-400$

30 gallons at a minimum and look at oil drives. Costs a bit more but lasts longer and they are quieter than oil-free pumps.
For the impact wrench, about the only one you'll need is the Ingersol-Rand 2135QTi. Best $250 and only impact wrench you'll likely ever need.

yeah, those are all great air compressors, but he only wants to use an impact gun. You don't have to spend a ton of money just to use an impact. I would suggest just getting one of the 25+ gallon compressors from sears etc. Example = go to http://www.sears.com and search for 00916728000 That size of a compressor will work just fine for an impact or any small jobs you should need it for. I would actually wait til like the day after Thanksgiving because the price should drop for just the tank to around $200, and then spend as much as you can on a nice impact gun (preferably one with 400+ lb ft of power). I've always heard when it comes to an air compressor, get the biggest you can afford, but If all you want to use it for is removing bolts + misc, you should be fine. Here's a suggestion though. Lowes sells compressors with the brand name Kobalt, they list what each compressor can run on the outside of their packaging. You should stop by there and check out their selection.

Re: (Skunk.Werks)
These guys are right. You should go for the belt driven large ones. I got a direct drive 15 gallon and its ok for light impact use and light air tool useage but anything more than light use and the thing runs all of the time and cant keep up. Also its loud as **** and you need ear protection just to use it in the same room.
