I heard something...
We just had a INJEN cold air intake installed in my husbands 1999 Civic EX Coupe. One of my friends told me that he was talking to a guy who has the same intake and his engine blew cause it wasnt getting enough air to the filter. Is it possible to do that? Also, since my husband is in I raq, how can I (yes a female) get the filter off to clean it?
Would appreciate any help you can give. Thank you https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif |
Re: I heard something... (USArmyMPWife)
An intake will allow much more oxygen into the engine. He must have meant water into the engine.
To clean you can soak in a bucket with detergent, then use hose to wash out the filter. Make sure it's dry when you put it back on. Also, you will need filter oil - helps plug any hole that could allow dirt into the filter. You can find it at almost every automotive store. |
Re: I heard something... (976)
ok but how do I get it out of the car?
|
if its a cold air intake, its in the fender-well
You can either pull the bumper off (easies) or pull back the fender liner (more work if you ask me) A dirty filter will just cause the engine to stall out/run crappy, not blow. Water sucked through the intake will cause hydrolock and a dead engine. |
Re: (pdiggitydogg)
yes it is in the fender well. will have to look at the fender to see how to get it off
|
just the liner inside, if you want to do it that way.
But like i said, removing the bumper is a lot easier. (2screws,2bolts,#clips) |

taking the fender off wont really get you anywhere https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif just take the bumper off, its easier than the fender anyways and the filter is more accessible https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif |
Re: (blackhatchy)
yup, just remove the front bumper. goto an auto store and they will show you the filter oil you'll need

Re: (QuikJaysun)
Thank you...I will try my best to Mod it while he is gone need some nice but not too expensive work in Colorado. The only thing that has been done so far is Euro Tailights and the Injen C.A.I.. But those were doen right before he left. For the brakes to be painted do you just buy Brake paint or what? Can you all help me with any ideas so that I can have some of it done before he comes home. I know he wants headers, suspension that will drop the car, and the exhaust.
Oh yeah another question...The MAINTENANCE REQUIRED square in the spedometer part of the gauge panel, what maintenance is required? |
thats just a ticker that rolls around w/ the odometer
push the button to clear it. As long as you keep up on oil, coolant, and the like its fine |
Re: (pdiggitydogg)
You will not be pleased painting the brakes yourself...
|
Re: (USArmyMPWife)
There's this company called "Spoon" that makes a brake upgrade that comes pre-anodized or powdercoated a lovely shade of blue https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif.

I don't want to brew up a shitstorm or anything, but: 1.) it's "grateful" not "gracefull" which isn't even a word and 2.) he's probably protecting Iraq's right to freedom, nothing that involves the United States further than the price of our gas. Our troops are currently scattered over the face of the earth to force democracy and "freedom" on any and every country that hasn't the power to resist our incursions. We're not protecting our freedom, we're fostering resentment. Sad but true. But indeed, thank him for being a selfless human being in a world that wouldn't piss on him to put out a fire https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emcocktl.gif. Soldiers are good men. |

Re: (pdiggitydogg)
oh okay thank you pdiggitydogg
|
to answer your original question though, he must of meant water into the engine, to get around that install a bypass valve that way no water can get sucked up in the intake into your motor...alot safer then not having one..just like a condom hahaha
