black hb---wow thanks for the comment *** . i still fail to see how i fucked up. i jacked from the subframe just like a lot of people do and it bent. are subframes supposed to bend?? nope. its not like i just jacked it anywhere i pleased

i'll jack from the tow hook. i don't think i'll be able to jack it up high enough to get the jack stands under the jack points. but i'll try. if its not high enough i'll see what other jacks i can buy

its raining out bad right now so im not workin on it

Ding Ding Ding We have a winner.

What he said. The tow hook is the best place to jack the back of the car up.

Um.....Whats wrong with jacking up from the Rad support. Unless the car was in an accident and the car wa put back together shitty this is the best place to jack the car up. There is even a spot that is made for a jack to be placed under. it is easily noticed. It looks like a lump in the support sticking out.

it bent because your jack is not flat. the prongs that stick up were digging in on a flat surface that is weak. the strongest part of a square pipe is at the corners. if you put the weight of the car on the center of that square section, it WILL bend. Some people use the 2X4 to disperse the pressure across the subframe, and others just make sure they place the jack on there so the weight is spread across the entire surface, and not on the flat spot. You sir, need some help with basic physics.
Think of it this way, when Chris Farley would fall on a coffee table, he'd fall in the middle. if he would have fallen right where the legs were, he would have stopped, and the legs would have to lean for it to crush the table.
Your jack is Chris Farley, and you just plopped him right in the middle of the table....

yeah like everyone says, jack the front from that bumpity thing, slightly toward the driver side. and on the back, use the tow hook. i mean, its a tow hook! they pick the damn car up from that, itll have no problem to have that force applied for a few minutes while you get jacks under.

haha thanks bake off. thanks for the physics 101 lecture.

the reason i did not jack from the ends of the subframe where the lca meets is because i was told that was an unsafe spot. i probly should have thought about using a wood block to jack on.

anyways, i'll jack from the rear tow hook.

A bit harsh Night_Minx... but consider yourself lucky. Just to get a floor jack under my car I have to pull the stock jack out of the trunk and jack up the side to create more room underneath.

There ARE jackpoints at each corner of the car as well as the tow hook on the front and the jackpoint in the front of the car on the bottom of the radiator support.

No wonder your messing things up just doing whatever you want....

EDIT: Front tow hooks bend easily so they're not good jack spots either. My cars too low to get my good jack under it so I either have to have a friend lift the car to get the good jack under or use my stock jack to help get it up enough to get a good jack under it.

EDIT x2: Everyone play nice or I'll start docking points. You all know who you are and suggest you go back to edit your posts. Im tired of the general crappy additude around here.

As many of you might know that the USDM version for the EK subframe is not reinforced like the JDM EK subframe. Thats why "SOME" people experience subframe damage/tears during hard corning. Now with that in mind why are you going to put the weight of the car on its weakest point?

I usually jack it up from the rear tow hook. Never gave me a problem and I've been doing that for 2 years.

there 2 great point to jack your civic

1.the rear tow hook

2.the front radiator support has a nub to do nothing but lift the car and get both wheels off the ground for clearence of putting jack stands on the point on each side of your car.

for the people that are low. ride your wheels/tires up on on 2x4's, or buy the takata ramps

tow hooks,
jack points,
front rad support

thoser the spots I use.

rear isnt as ez cuz you just have that 1 towhook,
but that 1hook will get both sides up,
just make sure you place stands on both sides once you get it up.. it WILL fall if you leave it on that single hook.

Today was the first day ive ever jacked up my car, i just jacked up the front using those 2 circular areas, behind the front wheels, and used the 2 slot things in the back. My way was prob worse bcuz i only could do one corner of one side at a time, and my front circular jack area got really bent in but i dont think it damaged anything.

so if u just have one jack, use it in the middle of the front and back and put the stands on those slots when you have each end jacked from the hooks?

i wasn't able to get back outside today cuz of the weather. but i'm not sure if my jack will be able to lift the rear tow hook high enough for me to squeez in the jack stands under the jack points. i have a 2 ton jack. i'm not using the oem scissor jack. my friend has a big bulky 3 ton jack, i'll see if that one goes any higher than mine.

keep your fingers crossed that the weather will be pleasant tomorrow so i can finish the suspension

you should be able to lift it high enough, just keep pumping the jack. I have one question, for the front jack point, the car is uneven when jacked up there, the jack stands are at two different levels, should I have the passenger side at a lower level (2 clicks up on the stand) like the driver's side? using that jack point forces you to use the jack stands, not a bad thing, but it may not be high enough.

haha........seriously.

You guys are putting way too much into this.

If its a solid point, you can jack from it. The whole
rail down the side of your car can be jacked from if
you use a little common sense.

I just cant belive this is such a long thread, I had to
post in it. I should take some pictures of my ghetto
jack setups. You do what you can working in grass
or gravel though. Not having a garage has forced me
to use every possible point to jack from, and not just
the factory areas.

The lack of common sence in this thread is amazing.
