I HATE jacking up my car. i think i bent my subframe!!!!1

this is for the rear of a 97 civic coupe:
grrrr why can't they make this easier. i hate jacking up my car and getting it on jackstands safely.. i always feel like i'm gona ruin something on my car.

i bent part of my subframe from jacking it up. please tell me where it is safe to freaking jack up my car and stuff. for the project i'm doing now, i need to have the jack stands on the jack points. so i can't jack from there.

also.. when i set it down on a jack stand at the jack point the bar that hangs down didn't reach the middle of the jack stand.. like the stand was actually holding up the car by the sideskirt and now i have a fine crack in the bottom of the skirt.

here are pics of the subframe:

You have 2 jackpoints on each side of the car. Get a jack under the front ones and jack them up high enough to put jackstands in the back. You can use the tow hooks to jack the car high enough to put jackstands in the front.

Wow..where your LCA bolts to the subframe looks pretty fucked. And damn that is the worst welds on an exhaust pipe I have ever seen.

lkailburn 07-27-2004 12:20 PM

whats fucked up about where the lca bolts to the sub? its just all grimmy. and the pb blaster half disolves it.

yes i know worst fucking muffler shop in the world. i HATE them.. don't even get me started on that

Re: (lkailburn)

why not just jack it up from the rear toe hook? http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

lkailburn 07-27-2004 12:27 PM

idk. cuz i've heard about jacking form the subframe. same thing could happen at the tow hook. what if that bends too? i mean why did it freakin bend like that? and if you look at the underneath shot, theres even a hole on the right side of the right tooth mark

Re: (lkailburn)

jack it up from the towhook, you wont have a problem

edit: rear towhook, I jack the front up from either side

I'd say you fucked up. Rear tow hook has never given me a problem. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

lkailburn 07-27-2004 12:36 PM

but how did i fuck up?? thats what i don't get!! seriously, i know a lot of ppl that jack from the subframe. why did mine bend?

what if the same thing happens at the tow hook? then what? i fucked up there too?!

sorry just venting.. i hate this bull

Re: (lkailburn)

I don't know why it bent dude, maybe it was just a weak spot to support the whole rear of the car like that. I've used the tow hook may times on my car and other w/o any problems at all.

lkailburn 07-27-2004 12:41 PM

do you use a 2x4 or just straight jack to tow hook?

Re: (lkailburn)

at least u didnt jack ur car up from the front, my fren fucked up n bent his entire front end radiator support n everything from jacking up from the front on a 2000 coupe

dirtyturtle 07-27-2004 12:42 PM

Re: (NickW)

from the looks of it, you only had half the jack on the subframe. that would be why it bent, having more pressure on one side...
i use the tow-hook. never had a problem https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: (CiViC KiD)

if you bother lookin at your jack in the back they show you where to jack your damn car up at it says nothing bout jackin it up in the middle of your car

lkailburn 07-27-2004 12:44 PM

i almost jacked from the rad support on the front one time.. but then decided to jack from the front tow hooks.

more ppl have also said the rear tow hook so i will jack from there.

should i use a 2x4 when i jack from there?

you dont have to use a 2x4, I do just because the car raises higher when i use one...gives me more room to move.

lkailburn 07-27-2004 12:49 PM

we got one vote for yes and one vote for no: using a 2x4 when jacking on the tow hook.

what about 2x4's on the jack stands when supporting the jack point. my jack stands are v shaped at the top. and they are so deep the v hits my side skirt before the jack point bar hits the middle of the v. so i have a fine crack in the bottom of my side skirt

Re: (lkailburn)

do me a favor and drive your car into a lake. if you cant figure out how to jack up your car without screwing up you shouldnt be working on it at all https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

just buy new jackstands they are cheap

Re: (Black HB)

u can jck from the lower controlarm aswell as the two jacking points towards the front of your sideskirts about 2-3 inches in there is a little metal clip just for jacking

Read my post again...damn, I said you dont have to, but I do to raise the car more, my car is slammed so I need as much room as possible. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif x10

lkailburn 07-27-2004 01:06 PM

should i jack from the lowest part of the tow hook, on the rod)? or where its welded to the car

If you look in a Helms manual, they show you where to jack up the car with a jack and where to use jack stands. For the rear, as people have already said, you use the tow hook. For the front, there is a support beam that you use near the radiator. And then you just put the jack stands under the side of the car at the jack points.

After this post you shouldn't have any more questions. Seriously.

lkailburn 07-27-2004 01:11 PM

i have a haynes book. and it says nothing about where to jack other than jack stands.. i should get a helms.

actually i hear a lot of bad things about jacking from the rad support on the front. i use the front tow hooks.

but the reason i ask so many questions is cuz i know ppl jack and use jack stands on the subframe.. but mine bends.. wtf is up with that! sorry for being all worried. i really don't need to fuck up my car and endanger myself

i will jack from the rear tow hook

It's not the radiator support. It's labeled in the Helms manual as "jacking bracket," and it's specifically used for jacking up the front of the car. Seriously, just go buy a Helms and save your car from further damage!
