Dry ice breaks down into CO2 gas, hence the "smoke" it makes. Well CO2 is used to put OUT fires. And would the expanding gas put pressure on the tank itself along with the fuel system??
High school chemistry classes help....get a fuel cooler if you want cooler fuel temps, looks like an oil cooler

Re: i got a question (wheelmanbg)
I wouldn't put anything in my tank that would make it harder for gas to burn. Keep in mind that dry ice is actually solid carbon dioxide. Wanna see how well carbon dioxide burns? Do this simple experiment.
1) Take your intake off.
2) Start your car.
3) While it's at idle exhale a chest full of air into your intake. You don't have to put your mouth on the throttle body, (don't be an idiot) just near it.
4) Listen to your idle drop.
Carbon Dioxide is no friend to your engine.

well this is what i was told...with better spark and useing dry ice to cool ur gas it will make ur gas be able to compress more which gives you a bigger combustion and the bigger combustion the more power there is but u need the a stronger spark to ignit the fuel which is where my msd and a bigger gapped plug comes in and i was just wondering if this was true or not...this is coming form a 30yr mechanic

This is why I thought it was a legitimate question. Old folks know good tricks usually

Re: (GsR92HaTcH)
Here's is what a lot of old school racers use, it's called a cool can.
It's pretty much just a can that hold either dry ice or ice with a fuel line coiled through it.

Good idea, but hard to tune on a boosted car or something like that, as the fuel will atomize better, and become denser. Fuels maps will be different.

yeah, you can cool down the gast by running it through dry ice as in the cooler above, but breaking up chunks of it and shoving it in you gas tanks is not a good idea. I think you just misunderstood what the guy was saying.

Re: (scuzz)
have you ever filled a 3 liter up with water, then dropped dry ice in it and cap'd it?
kaboom. it builds so much pressure. thats what would happen if you put it in your gas tank. the transformation from solid to gas would build ALOT of pressure, causing a leak or somthing worse.

Re: (GsR92HaTcH)
Okay, story time...
High school chemistry last year...
Dry ice lab = fun. We blew up lotion bottles, beakers, whatever. But the best was when we put some in a 2 liter... It sounded like a ******* bomb. The cops were called, we were questioned, and they magically couldn't figure out who did it (*smiles*). So, to say the least, put it right the expletive in. Just take a video when your gas cap rockets off or when the tank ******* shatters.

hey buddy notice how later on in the forum i said i didnt mean litarly into the gas tank i meant liek through a cooler can...adn the ppl who are talkin about it explodeing the tank tahts not true either cuz think about it you go to teh gas station u fill ur tank up and u go driving around ur gas is sloshing and what not everything gettin all hot n stuff and when u take the gas cap off wheres all the pressure???hmmm gas tanks are vented so there wouldnt be any explosin soo even it i said putin it strait into the tanks it isnt that much of a bad idea since dry ice when it melts turns into gass not water like ice and it would just be vented out...its not like a gas can that hold all its pressure in
