theres a tool they sell. it looks like a radio antenna and at the end it has a magnet, try using that to recover the bolt

use a magnet. they sell them at auto shops, it is telescoping and is meant for this type of stuff. hey, it happens to the best of us.

hey, at least you don't have acorns stashed in your timing belt cover.
****** squirrels hid some in there. on each rev, there's ground nuts.
and i doubt acorns are magnetic. ;c

Lol, when I changed the air filter on my dad's car it was filled with dog food. Must have been rats or some thing.
I read a post on the resource about a guy who had a rat eat it's way into the air box. It made it's way through the air filter and toward the throttle body, then got sucked into the intake manifold! Can you imagine scrapping rat guts out of your intake manifold?
Sears sell those magnets for like 5 bucks.

If luck is on your side, it's not stuck underneath the pulley. Happend to me once, had to take the cover off. Wasn't fun.

Remember to take that cover off you will have to take the crank pulley off, thats no fun I think I'm not the only one to think so.

this usally happens the first time somebody changes thier own cam gear. the tooth falls inside the cover haha. after you do that once and have to take off the crank pully and then the shield you wont make that mistake ever again. i always stuff shop rags in anything that something might possibly fall into and cause me a headache

You think that's odd...My friend lives in a nice neighborhood, in the suburbs outside LA. We started his car up in the afternoon to get something to eat, and about 30 seconds later or so noticed a really nasty smell. A rat had climbed in there and couldn't find his way out. He started cooking somewhere in there...Pretty nasty. He was tought to get out.

haha but its true. i started my car up like 2 days ago just to let it run a bit because it's still sitting there undriven. and some friends stopped by and said it was tickin.
i said, its just acorns. so i popped the hood and revved it with my hand ya know, and at probably 4500rpm, chunks of acorns came shooting up from the timing belt cover.
i'm just glad they arn't damaging anything. better off them grinding up than getting stuck ya know? lol
