I could REALLY use some advice...
I have a 95 civic ex and the other night, I was on my way home and I hit a bump in the road and my car jumped out of 4th gear. It's an automatic 4 speed. I can shift it into 1st and 2nd, but it won't shift into d3 or d4. I can only go about 15 mph without burning up my engine in those 2, as if I was stuck in 1st. I have plenty of fluid and nothing seems to be damaged. Before it actually jumped out, I was going a steady 45mph and it seemed like my car was jumping back and forth from 3rd to 4th, but it wasn't shifting hard. It seemed like it had a hard time deciding what gear it wanted to be in. I don't live close enough to be able to drive it 25 mph anywhere. Can anyone please HELP?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?! Thanks!!

So far, I've been told that it might be the torque converter or a selenoid... I could really use any advice I can get. I won't be able to bring it anywhere until next Friday. If I can figure out what it is, I can figure out what I need to do to fix it. Thanks!

maybe check the shift lock solenoid under/ near the shift lever. kinda hard to check you torque conv, with out getting nuts. there are also shift solenoids on the transmission. but that can be sketchy to. Bring to a Honda dealer or someone who you trust. good luck....

Hard to diagnose without seeing the car. A big part of diagnosing many problems is a visual inspection. Did you hit something? Or, just drive the wheels over a bump...

Thanks for the advice! I hit a dip in the road going 45 and it threw it out of gear somehow. Someone just told me it might also be that some wires from the tranny to the comptuer got knocked loose when I hit the dip. I'm going to check that out also....

I think he was just saying that that's all he can get it into.
Though you could be right and he could be a complete ricer .
@ OP:
I'd take it to a transmission shop, seriously. You're just gonna be pulling your pud looking for CEL's and wiring and dumb **** like that.
I seriously doubt it's your torque converter, i seriously doubt it's the switch on your shifter, and I seriously doubt it's wiring that "got knocked loose."
So 5 speed conversion or pull it and take it to an automatic transmission shop ftw .

No engine light or any other warning lights. It doesn't whine or shift hard. It will go into reverse, neutral, 1st, and 2nd, but d3 and d4 don't work. I can go about 15mph in those 2 gears. I will take it to a tranny shop once I'm able to. Thanks for all the help...

i was told when driving a auto, if you constantly shift into neutral when you stopped, it will "relieve" your engine. my car is automatic, but yeah its the daily driver. i'm not so fond of trying to eat and shift at the same time.
