i have a 96 civic coupe (ex)...its just a shell, and i just bought it...me and my roomates were pushing it up onto the driveway, and i noticed something weird...

i can turn fully to the right, about 3 revolutions (about) but i can turn until the steering wheel stops...

when i turn left, i only get like a quarter to half of a revolution...it almost feels like when i turn left the tire hits the fenderwell and stops it from turning...but i looked under the car, and couldn't see anything blocking it or anything unusual.


any ideas? anyone heard of this? if ur in sac area, and feel like helping, let me know! i need to know if this shell is trash, or if its fixable (within reason)

maybe the car had a previous accident that wasn't fixed properly

when the wheels are straight, is the steering wheel straight?

there could be a chance that the last guy that had it, put tie rods on and ****ed something up.. Cause it should be 1.5 turns all the way right, and 3 turns all the way left from the full right position...

yeah i smashed my golf cart into a tree once drifting it in the woods (lol i know u gotta see it to beleive a ez-go getting sideways) but i slammed it into a tree while in a slide going right and it was weird after that

could turn really far right like more then usual but going left is only like a quarter turn

never fixed it but your car was prolly in some accident and not fixed proper

ok...so its like 1.8 turns to the right and like .8 to the left

did you check to see if the wheel is straight when the tires are straight?

You might need to bring the car to a shop to do further inspection. i live 3000 miles away so im kinda useless for giving you an exact answer. but as for what makes the car turn, there isnt much.. A steering wheel, column, rack, out and inner tie rods.. Somewhere, something isnt right. take a closer look, if that means jacking the car up, and atempting to turn the wheels, maybe one of the tie rod's is bent, or where the tie rod bolts to the spindle is bent. Take the wheels off, and do a full check, your bound to come accross something that isnt allowing the tires to turn. I would advise to bring it to a profession if you arnt confident with what your looking at.

well the steering wheel is a sparco on a momo hub...i noticed that when i took the steering wheel off, the hub says top, but its not actually at the top when the tires/wheels are straight.

Put the tires facing straight, and go look at the tires and tell me if they are running parrelle with each other? maybe one of your tie rods is out of straight causing it to buckle when full turn? Also, when did it have an alignment last?

i literally just bought the car last night, and towed it to my house, and today is the first i could really look at it and mess with it...

so im checking for toe right?

if u were looking overhead view of the car they should be like | | right? it has camber because its pretty low.

somehting is messed up on your drivers side.. the wheel is cambers way in when you turn the wheel to the left, compared to the right side turned out.. You need to jack the car up, remove the wheels and get a better look. I wish i was were ever you are tho, lol Its facking snowing here in canada!!! hahahaha

BINGO!!!

Jack up the car, look at the tie rods, look at the steering rack, look at all the control arms. If everything looks fine, and nothing is bent then it's simply out of alignment. If its a shell then you can do the string method and get it very close. Just google it.

Also, why was thread bumped?

found the problem with the help of mcneil! I was thinking it was something with the steering or frame damage..

it was the wishbone on the suspension, mcneil pointed it out, I totally overlooked it...its on backwards so it hits the outer tierod when I turn. hahahahaha. so problem fixed!
