I have a 97 civic EX with a zc block and a y8 head and i cant find the bleeding plug for the coolant so that i can bleed my cooling system can someone help me find it?

THE BLEEDER SCREW IS ON THE WATER NECK THATS BOLTED TO THE HEAD. THE SIZE OF WRENCH U R GOING TO NEED IS A 12MM WRENCH

yeah some engines dont have it.

my b16a2 dont have one eighter.
my old GSR DID.
just bleed it through the radiator

i have heard that you just park on a hill and put coolant in the radiator when the car is cool and then start it up with the cap off and then let it run...but when i did that my fan never turned on like it says that it is supposed to and i let it run for probably liek 15 minutes is that a problem because really my car doesnt overheat unless i am running my ac and it only does that whenever i come to a stop and sometimes when i have the ac on and i come to a stop and let out the clutch my idle drops down real low and then idles back up to normal and sometimes it even dies but then start right back up without any troubles

are you guys talking about the bleeding screw or the drain plug? two totally different things. I'm lost but either way it's been answered all ready for both.

if you need to BLEED the coolant, its been answered above...here is a pic of the plug

most y8 heads don't have it. Mine didn't. unless you put the z6 neck on it.
with car cool start it up, take off rad cap and start squeezing the hoses together ( grab and mmake a fist)
watch the antifreeze though because it will over fill when doing this is full ( it will spill out on the ground)

not all bleeders are located in that area.
some are by the upper radiator housing.

best way to drain your coolant is to completely take your hoses off your car coming off your block. the reason behind this is because say you drain the radiator from the screw in the bottom corner of the radiator. what are you doing just draining the radiator. take the hoses off and let the block drain. next put the hoses back on but leave the bottom hose going to the bottom of the radiator off. next connect the top hose going to your block but also leave off the part going to your radiator dissconected take the top hose and put your normal garden hose to it and squeeze the radiator hose around it and turn the water on. this will clean the block out and get all the old fluid out of there. also do this to your radiator just put that hose up top and let it flow. make sure you let it sit for a couple mins on both. when u see nothing but clean water coming out the bottom hose turn the water off and let the water drain completely and then re hook everything back up and 50 50 fill it and you got your self a shady tree mechanic flush.

brucepic, he has three periods in there... All in the same place but they were there. However the use of 'and' seven times in a single run-on sentence is a little excessive. If you were going to try to bash him in some way without attempting to help him with his problem, that would have been the best choice in my opinion.

RedPrelude98, as mentioned some blocks didn't have them. If the hill thing didn't work you could probably pick up a D16Z6 coolant neck from a boneyard for maybe $5

It isn't much more from the dealer, maybe $16-$18. In the picture below you need numbers 6 and 10 and you will be good to go.



Number 6 is part number 19315-P08-000, an alternate part number is 19315-P08-010. List price is $11.47 so you could probably get it for maybe $9-$10.

Number 10 is part number 19516-PC1-000. List price is $9.45 so you could probably get it for $7-$8.

another way to to bleed the system if you don't have a bleed screw is take your radiator cap off jack the front of the car as high as you can off the ground with the front of the car the only part off the ground. the reason behind this is cause of the angle of the car the bubbles have a tendency to rise from the tilt of the car. It worked on a jeep that i was trying to bleed for 1 hour while i was at work couldn't get it to bleed just wouldn't work had the cap off letting it run burping the hoses then a tech that has been there for 24 years said alright try this we put the front of the car up on the posts and lifted it up 3 1/2 feet and well it worked about 10-mins later the car was running at perfect operating temp

no need to jack it though, just squeeze the hoses as i stated earlier in this thread.
