about two days ago i was driving and i went over a fairly good sized puddle and my car started to bog out and white smoke was purging out my exhaust. every time id turn my car on large amounts of white smoke would come out and then the car whould stall. i hear people talking about how you can hydrolock a car, is this my case??? if it is what can i do to fix it? any help would be great!

take out the spark plugs. get a shop vac and a piece of tubing. suck out any water left over.

mind you your motor may be toast anyways.

anyways...you might have some moisture in your cylinders still, but ur very lucky in any case cause hydrolock usually causes immediate engine failure

try to pull the plugs, dry out your distributor, and change your oil. if you're lucky, it may take a few tries, but she'll crank back up. since you kept trying to crank it, you may be out of luck though.

w3rd, the key is in the lube! change oil a couple times, and again after it runs a while.

99% of the time if it was hydrolocked it'dve been toasted instantly.. so if it just stalled it should be okay

The same thing happened to me. Got caught in a freak rainstorm but after removing a small amount of water from my throttle body w/ some napkins it started up. Gave me a good scare.

i have to disagree. my car also hit a puddle in a freak rainstorm. couldnt get it started that night but towed it home. the next day i dried it as much as possible got it running. thought it was all good till later that day. when it mysteriously knocked a couple times and flung the rod thru the block. we later found out that when the car stalled there was enough water to over stress the connecting rod. making it weak and very prone to fail. you could be ok but i would check everything i could before you drive it. good luck.

well.....my civics back up and running i found out i did have a lil bit of water in my engine... a hommie of mine helped me out! we took the engine block apart dried everything we could and Bam it worked ... thank god it didnt turn out into somthing more complicated...thanks for your guy's help too pce

i'm glad to hear your back up and running. same thing happened to me and it cost me quiet a bit to fix. I ended up throwing a rod and bending a few valves.
