Hybrid or Turbo???
Hey guys, I have a little dilemma. I'm working on a 97 Hatchback, and i had my sights originally set on a B18C1 to swap in. Now i'm considering turboing the DX powerplant...I have no clue on how much i can squeeze out of it though. Does anyone know the comparitive outputs of the two options? I figure that a B18C1 swap would run me approx $4000 +, but the turbo might run me a little less...maybe 3000. Thanks a lot guys, your help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Hybrid or Turbo??? (VoltageLS)
I have a friend in a 90 Si HB with the stock Si motor boosting 12lbs on all stock internals... but he tunes his car often. Its high maintainance. If you build the bottom end and decide not to go through the trouble he does... then the final price might be the same as the GSR swap. If thats the case..then go with the GSR. Its easier to maintain and you have more options on future upgrades if you choose.

sup. know who dis be jase? well anyways in my opinion i would say go for a turbo. cause your can go for a used turbo for 1500 and den intercooler and other stuff. but i kno nothing about technical ****. my real reason is because wen you be talking to peeps and you tell dem you have a b18 engine swap dey be like WHA?? but wen you tell dem you have TURBO dey be like WTF on a CIVIC like fast and da furious. he he .

Umm... yeah man, turbo so that people will understand that you're fast?
Who cares if they don't know? They'll find out, eventually
Well, if the engine has low miles on it, then boosting it would be ok. If the mileage on the engine is already higher than what it would be on teh swapped engine, then definitely swap.

Re: (Quikstep)
Sup guys, well I'll probably go with the B18C1 because the DX already has about 49k miles on it. Yea, a turbo would look cool, but NA is more practical and more reliable for someone like me. Who knows, I might win the lottery, then i'd have a turbo'd B18.

Re: (Quikstep)
my opinion...swap it out for the GSR motor....u can build that motor any damn way u please...you'll make power goin the all motor route...or you'll make power going the forced induction route...i know guys who build all motors....and can hang with some of the turbo cars out there...its all in how much money u really want to spend...keep in mind...turbo'ed cars are very very high maintenance...and the same goes for N/A cars also...once u open that motor up to make some serious power...your reliability factor goes down....good luck...
