hybrid steering racks?
Is it possible to remove the gears from a rack with more desirable turning ratios than a stock cx rack, and install them in place of the cx gears?
For example:
Could I take the gears from a type r steering rack and put them in the stock non power cx rack? Even upgrading to ex/si would be better.

Don't give up. All you really need to do is swap racks. I don't know how well it works, but you could swap in a power steering rack, fill it with fluid, and plug the holes. I've heard of a few people doing this and it worked fine for them, but turning the wheel from a stand-still is very difficult for the wimps. I also heard that Quaife (sp?) was coming out with a manual rack with better ratios for Civics. Don't know what happened with that though...

a power racks ratios are going to be really hard to turn in a parking lot when you are sitting still. when i disconnected the power steering in my FC i felt like i was going to break the wheel turning it so hard to park
personally i like the stock ratios in the manual rack in my cx...

Re: (redrum eg6)
In a few weeks I should be going with a Type R rack in my CX. Im going to hook up a breather system and see how things go.
My girl had to drive my car last night b/c I was a little out of it. It was quite amusing to see her try to deal with no power steering.

as soon as the 05 season rolls around, my car will be sporting an DC2 rack. 16:1 is much much better than 17.5:1

Re: (White Lightnin)
the breather setup works well. I have my rack looped now, but while I was waiting for fittment parts one of my hoses that goes into the rack became unplugged for a couple of days because i had it ghetto rigged with duck tape until I got the parts in. the stickiness of the ducktape melted and it came off so the hose was unplugged and exposed to the elements. For those couple of days it felt like I had power steering again except with much better steering response. So If you have the money to properly rig up a breather setup then go for it.
