hx help (did search already)
i'm posting this topic to seperate fact from myth..there's tons of **** i've floated thru in the last couple weeks here on ht and just need a little clearing up on somethings..
i have a 99' hx and a swap is in the works. i would like to spend time driving my hx motor for 1000's of more miles so i can work on the swap motor so i just don't drop a swap motor..
#1 is if i put in an ex ecu will i be able to to have a higher redline?
#2 if i can ad a header and normal cat converter will i be able to tap a hole for the O2 sensor to avoid a CEL?
#3 is there anyway i could slap a turbo on to this motor?
writing this the ?'s sound dumb, but these are a couple of things i would like to know...thanks

dunno

you wont need to, the header and cat both come with holes.
#3 is there anyway i could slap a turbo on to this motor?
sure

Re: hx help (Emerica)
1 yes you can run the ex ecu the diffrence not to much but the redline will increase
i have a friend that put a header on his hx. he just bought a ex header and took it to a exhaust shop to have the o2 mount welded in. so yeah and the header made a pretty noticable diffrence compared to the vary vary restrictive stock manifold

Re: hx help (flip b18b)
Why put money in that motor if your going to swap it. I would say catback, wheels, springs, ect... Unless it will work with the motor your going to get. No flaming just a question.

Re: hx help (shepworldwide)
I have a 97 hx and I love the moter Ive added a reactive hi flow cat and it came with the hole for the 02 sensor and the ex header is great for your engine the vtec e which only comes in the hx's is great you have the low band power which only allows your valves to open ( lets say as far as the dx's) for fuel econemy but when the vtec kicks in the high powerband kicks in and opens your valves to lets say si to get more fuel and air flow so your getting the best of both worlds however depending when the vtec kicks in will depend on wether or not you want to change that out or not. my vtec kicks in anywhere from 3000-4000 rpm depending on what im doing. a regular vtec kicks in at arround 5400-5800 rpm so we have a big advantage there. your tolerences as far as the valves go are real tight so be carefull when changing cams and such. a turbo will work great but be mindfull of the boost your putting out you may want to rebuild or build up how ever you wanna look at it.

NO. You don't want the EX ECU.
One of you intake valves only cracks open on each piston until VTEC-E which depending on pedal pressure is anywhere from 2700-3500 RPMS.
THE EX (P2P) Ecu will not engauge VTEC until 5500....your going to be slow as **** from about 3300 to 5500 then BAM but, thats not what you want. So don't bother with the EX ECU.
Now, A EX header will work great. Especially an aftermarket header. But, you have to relocate the catalytic converter and get a EX cat-back since it is shorter or have your stock exhaust modified.
THe best thing for you to do with teh D16Y5 (HX engine) actually is get a Cold air intake and a EX transmission. That makes a world of difference.
Once you get the tranny then get the exhaust. But, if you intend to swap in the future don't bother spending any money at all....the less you spend the quicker you can get the swap.
You can Turbo the Y5 however, I would recommend a custom ECU and VAFC if you plan. 1 for fuel maps and 2 for VTEC crossover.
What else you got?

i was told that with a gsr ecu my car would rip it up to 8300 rpm.
thing i do love about the hx is the kick the car get's @ 3500 rpm and it really pulls for what it's worth.. i really want to go turbo cuz i can switch it over to the new motor when i'm done
thank for the input guy's..
