Default Hx civic question

Hello, I have a 1998 Honda civic hx, 2 door coupe and was wondering why my rpm's waiver from about 1800 to 2300.... etc. this mainly happens when i am speeding up or idling. It feels like the engine is revving while i am speeding up. Also when I drive from 0mph to x speed, it jerks forward while i barely push on the gas and it looks like it skips from 1000 to 2000 rpm. does anyone have any suggestions for me. it also has about 160k miles and runs fine besides that.

So is it like a fluctuation idle problem then?

Scan for codes. Autozone will do it for free. If no codes, check for vacuum leak.

Is the CEL remaining on while you drive? It sounds like a TPS problem.

I like his idea better. If there's dead spots on the TPS, incorrect voltage will be sent to the computer on the dead spots then as it moves the potentiometer will start sending the correct voltage again, causing your rpm's to jump around.

This happened to me w/ my 00 hatch. Check for codes that dont trigger the CEL, check your vacuum lines, and check your wires to the IACV. If those are fine then the IACV could be bad. When was the last time you did a tune up?
