Hugest pothole ever broke coilover perch today
First a little background info... right now in Denver, there's a huge construction project which is completely over-hauling I-25 (main N-S highway). Well the project started in 2000. Well there's been no repaving on the old sections of that road since, and for you people that live in cold climates, the freeze thaw cycle took hold of one section of road.
I was following some traffic through an old-section of highway, when I hit a hole which was 4-5" deep, then 10" wide and 18" long. Well the accord in front of me swerved around it, and I had no chance but to hit it. So I did, and my first though was my tire popped or I bent a rim. But the Potenzas and ADVAN's held strong and the weaksauce coilovers that were on the civic when I bought it broke-- they're made by Focuz ( ). So the piece on the coilovers which turns and adjusts the height snapped in 5 places. I've always wondered why there were 2 rings around the threads.... now I know.
Anyone know if the construction contractor should be the ones to pay for this?
I just bought some Tein Flex coilovers on eBay. Yay credit cards.
All the broken pieces were still in the spring.
cliffs notes:Hit a huge pothole and my coilover snapped.

If it was on a public road then contact the city. But since it was in a cosntruction zone, you may have difficulty getting reimbursed. I wouldn't bother since it's just a cheap $40 set of springs.

just find a pothole somewhere in ur area and say you hit that one instead of the construction zone. that way the city will pay for it!

The car came with the coilovers, I didn't feel motivated to change them until I had to, so I guess now is my chance?
Thanks for all the compliments on the wheels--
The dent in the fender was from using an engine crane in a cramped garage. The only damage is what you can see in the pics.

I was kind of in the same situation and the construction company had insurance which paid me for one rim and tire. I would go to the construction company and find out if they can reimberse you. Even if you get 40$, at least you got some money you didn't have before.

Re: Hugest pothole ever broke coilover perch today (Skyllz)
LOL, I missed that comment from last night, haha.
So the contractor called me this morning, and she got some info like where the hole is what time it was when I drove through there, and what lane it was in (so they can fill the hole, and this doesn't happen to anyone else), but I guess the insurance adjustor is supposed to call me later this morning so he can come see the car.
Hopefully being 'aftermarket coilovers' won't alter his judgement.
