Default How would a skunk 2 universal muffler sound?

I have a em1 with stock header and b16a2. I'm thinking about doing a custom 2.5 inch exhaust and was wondering how would the 3 inch skunk2 universal muffler sound?

Yes all I got was people just cuting the tip off their cars with stock piping and d series motors.

Why do you need a 3" for starters? Ridiculous on an N/A engine.

do you mean a N/A b? J's are very happy with a 3 inch exhaust without boost

because I was thinking about going turbo and was thinking it would be a bit less restrictive

IV read that the 90s Honda engines cannot handle a larger pipe ie 3inch without undesired effects..

Where was a J-series mentioned?

Actually, many people have made more power and torque when switching to a 3" on their NA setups.

thats way too big, you lose exhaust velocity and scavenging ability, air wants to stagnate in the pipe. a 3 inch pipe can handle over 300 horsepower

For a real NA motor, that's been properly and fully built, 3" is perfectly reasonable. For a D series with no internal modifications, and no form of FI, it doesn't matter a single bit. Exhaust back pressure is a myth, propagated from people who think 2 and 4 stroke engines are the same.

it's not back pressure,I'm not talking about back pressure, I'm talking about exhaust velocity and scavenging ability, exhaust velocity is no myth, when you go with that big of a pipe on too small of a motor you start losing bottom end, because the gasses slow down too much, this is all well known and proven, do some research. Everyone confuses back pressure and velocity, you calculate the volume of the motor vs rpm to figure exhaust pipe size, on this subject, you see people hollowing out their cats, this is the worse thing you can do, now you have exhaust flowing into a large open area, and then back out a restricted area, terrible for velocity. you end up with exhaust swirling around an expansion chamber, now forced induction is a complete different situation, since you have the turbine wheel in the exhaust stream, everything about velocity, scavenging etc goes out the window, you just want to dump it out with as little restriction as possible

I found a good page that has the formulas on calculating pipe size and muffler size, the pipe sizes they come up with are probably on the conservative side, they can probably flow a little more http://www.exhaustvideos.com/faq/how...pipe-diameter/

Any for any kind of performance motor, that might matter. For a D series, or stock B series...it doesn't, especially considering the ECU probably won't even be tuned. You're also trying to conveniently leave out differing tubing sizes, as well as directional bends.

A 3 inch muffler on 2.5" piping will not do a damn thing.

piping size has nothing to do with the ecu it's all about the volume of gasses through the motor, an engine has a fixed volume, unless you bore it out or change something internally that doesn't change, any performance changes only move air through that same engine volume faster, this is all basic fluid dynamics, if you do something to the head, porting, bigger valves, etc, or increase the exhaust velocity by moving more air through the engine, then yes, a bigger exhaust is needed

but 2.5 inch piping is probably just fine for almost any build, the 3 inch muffler only makes it louder for ricers driving around walmart, saw someone earlier with at least a six inch opening on a muffler, attached to what looked like the factory exhaust, sounded like a taco bell bathroom

You're talking to a guy who studied fluid dynamics in college. I understand how it works. I also studied mechanical engineering. You need to take both pieces of the puzzle into account with each other. What you seem so intent on arguing is a moot point, though, because...

I'm not arguing this stuff is already able to be calculated ,yet you are arguing, I'm giving you facts, you are saying you know more then everyone who has figured out these formulas? it's math

You understand that the math exists. I understand how it works. The OP isn't talking about slapping a 5" exhaust on his car. For the OP's motor, his proposed exhaust setup will accomplish exactly nothing other than change the sound.

Okay. I see now. A 3" muffler because you THINK you might go turbo (but you never will)? But you'll keep the rest of the piping the same? Dumb idea. And is it a 3" tip we're talking about or a real 3" straight through? Either way, dumb idea.

it's possible he wants to run a 2.5 inch exhaust but they only make that muffler in a 3 inch, thats not that big of change over the size of the pipe, I mean it could be a 4 inch muffler on a 2.5 inch pipe
