How to wire knock sensor
I did the y7/y8 minime a couple of months ago and have been running the knock (23) code since then but now i have a knock sensor and was wondering if i can hook it up and just mount it under the dash somwhere so i wont be running the code. this will only be temporary. the problem is i am still running the y7 wiring harness which has no switch to the knock sensor, can i just the female side of a spade connector and plug it into the knock sensor? i did this and it still throws the code so im not sure whats going on here. any help?
Can I wire it pictured as below??

most of the time doing a swap your harness won't have a plug on it. Just run a wire straight from the ecu to the knock sensor. Make sure to use a insulated/shielded wire or it may pick up something from other wires.

thats how mine is and i haven't had any problems, but most people will tell you to use a insulated/shielded wire

Re: (Civiclx)
use the regular wire should be ok, but recommend the shielded wire. try to route the wire away from any other electrical components, and vibrations. if you want to get shielded wire then try radio shack or fry's electronic, they might have it.

Re: (2lua)
ok thanks, but what i mean by grounding is, the end of the knock sensor is threaded to the block, can i thread it anywhere else, i.e. the chassis inside the car? i think by threading it to the block, it serves to ground the sensor inside the unit

Re: (Civiclx)
as far as the placement for the knock sensor location the block should have a placement for it. i think it suppost to be above the oil filter, and about grounding the sensor, i don't think it need one but like you said it ground it self thru the block.

Re: (Civiclx)
no shielded wire had plastic insulation over an aluminum foil insulation then over another plastic insulation wire. to prevent the electrical static.

I've posted this like 8 million times so i'm gonna post it again. This is for doing a knock sensor in an LSVTEC but i'm sure it will work for a mini me just fine.

Pictured here is the back of a B18a block. Notice there is no knock sensor. The knock sensor came on the 92+ VTEC engines only. If your block doesn't have a knock sensor, you will need to located a hole for one:
Pictured here is the B17 block with the stock location for the knock sensor:
On a B18a block we chose to remove one of the mounting bolts for the alternator bracket and use this as the new location for the Knock sensor:
Using a 10.9 mm drill bit, opened up the hole on the bracket and the block. Then carefully tap the hole with a 12 mm x 1.25 thread pitch tap. Be sure to clean up the shavings and then screw the knock sensor. This will keep your ECU from throwing any codes:
Here you can see the knock sensor in its new location:

Re: (BauleyCivic)
yo bauley its not so much the position that im worried about, everyone knows where the d16y7 position is, but i was wanting to know HOW to wire it up with a harness that doesnt originally have it (what wire to use, connectors that are not stock, etc.)

Re: How to wire knock sensor (Civiclx)
eoe so your saying that 96 and up ex civics or d16y8 motors came with knock sensors?? i have never heard or seen that before i didnt even know that the single cam ecu's looked for a knock sensor even if you put one on the motor..
i guess i learn something new everyday
