How urgent is the idler bearing in the tranny?

How urgent is the idler bearing in the tranny?
Going to pickup a 93 today, 170k, new belts, new clutch for 950 today. LX with rusted quarters 
It has the idler bearing issue and was wondering when it becomes a real problem if its mileage or by sound.

Do you mean the throw out bearing? It's very common to hear the TOB or the Input Shaft Bearings on our Hondas.
If you can hear them, they usually need to be replaced.

Throwout bearings are pretty easy to replace, but the input shaft bearing takes a little bit more work.

As others have said - are you talking about the throwout bearing?
Assuming you aren't, and you're talking about the idler bearing, as in the bearing that allows the idler gear to spin - it's very important if you want reverse in your car. That's if the gear doesn't jam and shred after the bearing ceases and the metal shards tear up the rest of your transmission. Though I don't think I've ever seen the bearing on the idler gear go bad...?

input shaft bearing I think, it almost sounds like lousy brakes/disc but the brakes were just "redone" on the car before we bought it and it stops great
a sliding/catching sound like a caliper is hung up but the car doesn't pull to one side and the sound is sporadic
I don't think its the throwout, I've done one on a mustang and my buddy does not have this issue with the clutch depressed.
What can I do to further diagnose the problem, thanks for all the responses thus far.
