how to troubleshoot rattling?
Well, basically my car rattles a lot. I'll be driving around and I'll hear faint rattling here and there, especially from the rear of the car (maybe the trunk?). Lately it's been really getting on my nerves, and I want to check it out. I know I probably need to thighten stuff around, as it is a 14 year old car and I'm thinking the previous owners didn't pay much attention to it .. but how do I find out where to start? I have no idea exactly where it's coming from, anyone have any tips on finding out?
Thanks in advance

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? Could be rattling against the chassis, a heat shield, control arm, etc...
Could be loose items rattling around in the trunk. Raise up the car, place jack stands under the car in the appropriate jack spots and take a look!

No aftermarket exhaust, but I do think maybe some of it might be coming from the exhaust..gotta check that out. The trunk doesn't really have any loose items though, I think maybe it's the trunk assembly or I don't know. I'm gonna try to raise up the car (maybe tomorrow) and take a look.
When you say putting duct-tape in the metal panel clips, which ones are you referring to? Sorry if I sound dumb, I'm kind of new to this so I'm taking it slow.. It seems like there's some rattling from near the bottom on the passenger side, it's hard to single out what it is as I can't really pay much attention with the car in motion while driving.
Thanks for the help, appreciate it

The int. panels are held in place by some screws and metal clips on the back. The clip could be ratling just put tape inside them for a tighter fit to the plastic, if thats even what it is. One way to tell is get someone to hold the gas down to where it rattles and go around pushing your int. panels and see if it stops.
