How to tell when you have a D15B vtec motor
The guy that bought my civic with blown motor had a new motor put in and it was a jap D15B. It has a plate bolted to where the Vtec solinoid would be and I cant remember the original having this plate. Is there any other way to tell if this is\was a Vtec motor? Thanks.

Just saw your second post. ECU wouldnt have changed, just wondering if the shop just put a plate where the solonoid was because it originally wasnt a vtec car.
Just looking for other tells as to if this could be a Vtec motor.

have to bring this post back up
dont mean 2 thread jack but i have the same issue
when i bought the car, the previous owner had the motor changed to a jap d15b (stamped on block)
the valve cover doesnt have VTEC prolly reused the d15b7 cover. im pretty sure the ECU is still the one from the d15b7 il have to check

Re: (Squelch)
Ive seen this a few times. The jdm D15B is cheaper and easier to get your hands on then a regular D15 so what some shops do is they have some in the back and when its time to do a swap replacement they use that motor. The reason why the plate is there is because they dont put VTEC on the motor, they run the stock ecu and all the components (sp?) of the last motor and you wouldnt know the difference.

just as he said, look for the p08 headstamp
