How to tell what yr. motor you have
is there anyway to tell what yr motor the car has if the motor was swapped before you bought it. i bought my Cx hatch which is a 92 and the guy had put a DX engine in it, when the old engine blew. i wanted to know, becuz i wanted to know if it matter if the a/c compresser from the new motor need to have R134a if the motor is newer than the car. or does it need to have R12 if the car is a 92. ask me anything if you guys dont understand what im talking about.

Since heads are swapped so often nowadays, the best way is to look at the block stamp and go from there. Say for example there's a B18C1 4567890 block number, with the 4567890 numbers underneath the B18C1. The number 4 is what determines the "generation" of that particular motor and you go from there. Hence, for this example, the B18C1 4th gen motor is a 1997 motor. Since B18C motors started in 1994 (ala 1st gen), then the 4th is 1997, and so on. This applies for all motors. It's a little weird when you look at JDM 2nd gen B16 motors because they say B16A 5678901 where they are 5th gen motors, so made for the 93, but you get the idea.

Re: How to tell what yr. motor you have (vtechicano)
depends what compressor you have. what year is the car? 92? I'm sure the guy that changed the motor used the original ac compressor. I think 92 still used r12 but you can buy a r134 retro kit from autozone for 35 bucks. with that kit it doesn't matter if you have r12 or 134 since the kit accommodates both. the kit comes with everything you need for a recharge.

Yea but you forgot that was b17. Dont go buy what model the engine went into but the engine code itself. Not sure if that makes any sence
