How to tell if your car was an automatic?
Got back into a honda and figured i'd share (and the kit is already stripped off);
The next day:
I'm curious as how to tell if your car used to be an auto. I was told by the previous owner that it was, but he also thought this car was a 1997. The title says 1996 and the car is midori green, which was only produced in 1996 if i recall.
It does have an automatic cluster. but everything else seems to be perfect. the clutch master cylinder looks like it was never touched since 1996. The pedal assembly has the yellow line markings on it, no excessive cutting was done. and the shifter hole looks the same as a manual (not sure if it would be a different size anyway).
Anyone with any ideas on how to tell if it was automatic?

Take off the center console, if it was an auto you should have a big hole or repaired area where the auto shifter box used to be. You can also tell where the 5 speed shift linkages bolt up inside the car, if it was a factory 5 speed the nuts will be factory welded in, if it was a factory auto car then the 5 speed linkages will be bolted up with a nut/bolt combo.
EDIT* 90% of auto to manual swaps also use a conversion mount on the tranny.

Not the case with a '96 - '00 Civic, you simply use the upper transmission mount and bracket from a '96 - '00 5 speed civic. Auto to manual swap is a 100% bolt on affair in these cars. '92 - '95 civics/'94 - '01 Integras require the auto to manual mount or cutting and welding.
