How to tell if they're CTR pistons
hi. just wondering how to tell if i have REAL CTR pistons. are there any markings on them to tell the difference, or any other physical description. also, will they just slide right in my B16A2 with stock 99-00 si rods, or will i have to do any major modifications on my block or fitment with the rod and pistons. i'm also goin to install a mugen headgasket along with the pistons. let me know. thanks...

i dont know what the casting number is, but my b16a pistons have p30 on them which i thought was prety much any hydro series short part number. hope that helps a little. if you can find that number (being the ctr number) you may be able to tell that way.

The pistons will say PCT on them.
They will not fit on your rods without modifications. Most people shave their rods, but I prefer to mill the piston instead.

hi. they really won't fit my rods. i have done a search and people say they will fit any B series rods. also what kind of modification will i have to do to the block to make them fit. how much of a clearance will i have from the head if i install the pistons. i also heard that it is mad to mill if u are installing CTR pistons in a B16A2 because of clearance. thanks again...

They do not fit any B-series rod. That is a fact.
Any good machine shop should be able to measure clearances for you.

The best thing to do is take the rods and pistons in together, tell them to mill the inside of the piston and put them together for you.

Re: How to tell if they're CTR pistons (Spade)
hi. so it will be necesary to mill the CTR pistons to make them fit on the stock 00 B16A2 Si rods. after that, will the pistons and rods fit perfectly in the block or do i need to do more modification. thanks again...

Re: How to tell if they're CTR pistons (Spade)
hi. so just mill the pistons then slip them on the 00 B16A2 Si rods then it will just fit right in the block with no problems; sounds good to me. One more question, i'm planning on installing a Mugen headgasket when i install the CTR pistons, will the compression be to high for a daily driven car. what are the pros and cons of having too high of a compression in a B16A2. thanks again...

power good
detonation bad
as far as the C/R goes, i have no idea what you'll be at with that combo

if you dont know what the sum of all these parts mean, maybe you should just stick with stock parts.
I mean, no offense, but it seems like you have no clue what all these parts mean towards compression ratio, detonation etc.
You think maybe you are biting off more then you can chew here?

you canalways elimate detonation by running Hi octane fuel and try not to make the engine lug at low rpm.....but like others are saying if you are biting off more then you can chew, youre going to be for long nights in the garage and endless headaches...

Re: (bewst12psi)
I'm doing the exact same with my car, just got the rods milled to fit the pistons, now the only reason why they're having a problem is becuase the shop where I'm getting it done at got the wrong sized piston rings, so the pistons were getting "locked up" in the block. Other than that, hopefully when the new rings come in it should be up and running!! but ya, don't worry about detonation my friend who has a balance and blue printed b16 with ctr pistons and jun 3 head and what not has no problem running on 91 octane. every one in a while he'll ad octane booster, but other than that you're good to go.
